You know those times where you think you know where you’re going and then you end up getting lost?
Thank goodness all we have to do is type the address in our GPS.
But what do you do when your business gets lost and how do you know when it is?
How to Tell When Your Business Has Lost Direction
You can tell when your business may have lost its way and needs new direction when there is:
- No grasp of what the company future looks like.
- No tracking of sales or profitability.
- You don’t know whether employees are happy, dissatisfied or feel accomplished.
- No idea if customers are raving or ranting.
- A tendency to do things the same for long periods of time without knowing if it’s working, until it’s not.
Why Your Company Needs a Road Map
That’s why companies need a business GPS. It acts as a roadmap to:
- Create a vision for you and the company. What do you want the future to look like?
- Determine what you want your role to be. If you’re the owner, check your attitude. Are you still enthusiastic or burned-out? Do you need a role change?
- Set new financial targets based upon your vision. Track the numbers. React if required.
- Be curious and responsive. Check in with your employees and customers regularly and ask questions.
- Examine processes and systems with your team. Do this regularly and be open to change.
- Encourage innovation, excitement and play!
Failing to plan for your business is like jumping into your car for a long trip without a GPS. You’re likely going to get lost.
To ensure your business heads in the right direction, consider using a road map for your business that helps you get to where you want to go.
