I love the spring!
Seeing the bounty of colours that erupt from the grey doldrums of winter and seeing everything come back to life again always puts extra energy back into my daily routine. Even though living in the West coast of Canada did not produce anywhere near a severe winter as the East coast did, we still had our fair share of dark, wet and gloomy days.
So I for one am thankful for the longer days and promise of seeing more sunshine in the coming weeks! Since Spring is a time for rejuvenation, how about doing some revitalization to your business marketing efforts too?
After reading this article, I’ll have provided you with several ways you can do that.
I’d love it if you left a comment at the end to share which one you will do! So I encourage you to take advantage of this renewed sense of energy and put more spring into your marketing to get more clients.
Here are five things you can start on today to get you going:
- Pick up the phone. Just as spring is a time of new beginnings for you, the same principle applies for your potential clients. People are in a hopeful, happy mood and are more amiable to making decisions, developing plans and moving forward.
Pick up the phone and call your leads, past and present clients and those you met through your networking activities. Either introduce yourself or remind them that you’re still around and are here to help.
Ask them how things are going for them and if they have any questions you can answer. You might also want to invite them to connect with you on Social Media if they haven’t yet so you can continue to be in touch with them on a more consistent basis while developing a more deeper connection with them.
- Conduct a promotion. Create a contest or some sort of promotion that’s tied in with Spring. If you’re in the cleaning or organizing industry, this is tailor made for you!
A word of caution: avoid discounting your services – instead, add more value to your offering than what you would normally provide at the regular price. Discounting devalues your product or service but adding more value to an existing package is a win-win scenario for you both!
Facebook or Pinterest are great places to conduct contests. Just be careful to follow the rules in each of those platforms to avoid getting your account shut down.
- Spruce up your website. If you haven’t updated your website for a while, this is a great time to give it a freshen-up. Just like you wouldn’t be reading the Thursday newspaper to find out what happened on Monday, your potential clients also don’t want to see old news on your website.
More importantly, you risk them thinking you have abandoned ship and are no longer in business due to seeing that nothing has changed since the last time they visited, or are noticing your last blog post was a couple of years ago!
Remember, your website is your primary marketing tool that works on your behalf 24-7 so treat it with the due diligence it deserves.
The impressions your website is giving your potential clients can literally make or break their decision to work with you or buy your product.
- Get active in Social Media. There’s no avoiding it, social media is a must in today’s marketing efforts. Incredibly, I have heard from some clients where they are not being considered for hire due to having a lack of followers on Facebook!
Whether right or wrong, potential clients could judge you on your lack of participation in this arena so it’s worth putting some time and effort into building your brand with this important marketing channel.
I know for some, it seems like a waste of time and honestly, I felt that way for a long time too. But the key is to be strategic with your efforts instead of just putting up random posts. If you are new to social media or feel you could get more strategic with your efforts, find a reputable Social Media training program or membership group that you could join and learn what you need to know to help you understand what to do, when to do it and why you’re doing it.
- Get out and network. No amount of online efforts will ever replace the benefits of in-person networking. The key is to find the right networking groups and events to participate in. Ask around in your local community or research to see what live events are happening that you can attend and there, you will gain a huge boost in building relationships and credibility.
The trick is to go where you know your ideal target market is hanging out and start there. Get involved, get seen and start to develop the “know, like and trust” factor with them.
If the above list seems overwhelming to you or you don’t know where, or how, to begin, I invite you to see if working with me one-on-one would be a good fit.
