Facebook Live videos and video marketing in general can be frightening for many entrepreneurs. The idea of going on camera prevents a lot of people from taking advantage of this excellent way to gain their target market’s attention.
If you’re one of the many people out there afraid to get in front of a camera then you’re in luck!!
Video Confidence Coach Michele Moreno is my special guest in this eTip segment. Michele helps entrepreneurs and business owners just like you make the most of the opportunities live streaming and recording videos offers.
Learn how to build confidence and use videos to tell stories that help you succeed online.
She started out in acting and singing but the first time she went on TV was a game show and it didn’t go well. We’ll save the details but somehow she managed to let down Whoopi Goldberg and Big Bird at the same time.
After more than 200 auditions Michele finally started seeing some hope by landing some roles on several TV shows. She’s now applying those skills she learned towards coaching others who want to be in front of the camera but aren’t properly prepared.
Put your value to your potential client, your viewer, ahead of your ego and the nervous feeling you may have.
Feeling More Confident on Video
Michele knows that fear of the camera is a fear of being judged by others and failing and it’s essential to push through that. She sees her clients taking on a fight or flight response when left alone at the mercy of the camera.
Michele advises people to take the audience into consideration when creating their videos and acknowledge that it’s not a massive audience watching you when you’re posting videos online. Think of it as just one person. This way you won’t feel so intimidated at the thought of being in front of the camera.
Focus on the value you bring your audience and your message. Put your value to your potential client, your viewer, ahead of your ego and the nervous feeling you may have. The best way to earn that like, know, and trust factor is video. Even better are live recordings!
Providing value is key. Something that makes your viewer’s lives better will override any judgement they have of your appearance or presentation skills.
Talk about what you do, the value you provide, and reiterate the point of your website through your video.
Your Website Home Page Video
Now you want to put your best foot forward so make sure you’re lighting is set up right, you have your makeup done right, and that you wear flattering colours for your skin tone with a clean background that frames your face well. With all those ‘look’ aspects covered, you then have to focus on providing value.
Michele advises on adding a video to a website’s Home page to help convert users. Depending on your type of business the video can vary quite a bit. If you’re dead set against attempting these yourself you can always hire a professional to put together a video for you.
Tailor your video to your audience and your business. Talk about what you do, the value you provide, and reiterate the point of your website through your video.
Demonstrate who you are and how you can help them so they can watch the video and feel more confident in you and your business. As a rule Michele says to keep videos under 3 minutes in length.
Looking Professional is Key
The key to the video’s success is how professional the end product is. If you’re on a website with a bad video that is inconsistent with their branding and looks unprofessional, then that video is doing them a disservice.
It actually harms your brand and the potential success of your website so make sure your video shows the real you and in a way that is professional and ideal for how you want to present yourself to a viewer brand new to your business.
If you’re unsure about whether or not your video cuts it, try showing it to friends or clients and ask for honest feedback. Ask them if having that video provides the right perception of you based on how they know you and your value.
Video is the fastest path to getting that know, like, and trust factor settled outside of an actual meeting because it provides an opportunity for viewers to get to know the real you.
Sometimes you’ll get 0 views when you stream but tonnes of views when you post the recording afterwards.
The REAL You Please!
Remember your only goal with your video is to talk to your viewer and access that moment as yourself. When you are really being yourself it builds trust with your potential clients and customers because they know the real you.
This is also good for making sure your leads are your ideal clients because if they don’t like the real you in your video they likely won’t like the real you!
The real you also helps with the second meeting or that first in person meeting. They already know you so it makes everything afterwards like discussing strategy and pricing so much easier.
Set Aside Your Ego…
Don’t be afraid if you don’t even have any audience at all during a live broadcast. Sometimes you’ll get 0 views when you stream but tonnes of views when you post the recording afterwards.
Remember this isn’t about you and your ego. It’s about the value you provide. If you consistently remember that goal, your videos will improve and resonate with viewers so you gain their trust while they get to know (and hopefully) like you.
That’s how video helps you build your business online.
