Our Brain Cells Are Slowly Dying.
That’s what someone said to me recently during a conversation about AI and business communications.
It made me pause.
Are we really losing our ability to think, reason, and create because we’re handing too much over to machines?
If we’re not careful, maybe we are.
AI is powerful. But it’s still just a tool, no different than a calculator or a hammer.
A calculator can add numbers, but if you punch in the wrong ones, you’ll still get the wrong answer.
A hammer can drive a nail, but that doesn’t make you a master carpenter.
And the same is true with AI.
Used properly, it’s an incredible way to enhance what you already know.
If used carelessly, it’s a shortcut to losing your credibility – and yes, maybe a few brain cells, too.
I’ve seen the signs everywhere:
- Newsletters that sound eerily like ChatGPT spat them out in 30 seconds
- Blog posts with zero personality or human connection
- Social media messaging that’s generic, forgettable, or worse – misleading
These mistakes happen when entrepreneurs think AI will do the thinking for them.
But it won’t, and it can’t.
AI can help you brainstorm faster.
It can help you organize your thoughts.
It can even suggest new angles you might not have seen on your own.
But only you bring the experience, empathy, expertise, and critical thinking that turns “just okay” content into truly valuable communication.
When you work with AI as a partner, not a replacement, you’re not dumbing down your brain. You’re forcing it to work differently.
More strategically.
More creatively.
More discerningly.
It’s a shift, not a surrender.
So, before you hit “publish” on your next AI-assisted email or blog post, ask yourself:
- Did I use my human judgment here?
- Did I shape this to sound like me?
- Does this actually serve my audience, or just me?
Otherwise, you might just be handing your brain cells (and your brand) over to a robot.
And let’s face it – robots don’t drink coffee, celebrate wins, or laugh at a good dad joke (at least not yet).
What do you think? Is AI helping you fire up new brain cells – or quietly stealing them away?
And yes, full disclosure: I partnered with ChatGPT to help shape this piece. But before letting it assist me, I trained it to deeply understand my values, my voice, and my writing style. Every thought, nuance, and message you’re reading was first guided by me, using AI as a supportive tool, not a substitute. This is proof that when used properly, AI can amplify your unique voice instead of erasing it!
So, if you’re looking for a trusted marketing partner who knows how to blend AI technologies with expert strategy and a human touch, let’s talk.
I offer a free 30-minute discovery session where we can explore how to position your brand for the best results, without losing your voice, your values, or your vision.
To your business success,
Susan Friesen
