Wondering how to get more engagement on your Facebook page?
Check out this live broadcast of Tea Time Tips: Marketing For Busy Entrepreneurs where I answered this question in detail.
Welcome to the first Tea Time Tips: Marketing for Busy Entrepreneurs!
In this video I cover ways to get more engagement on your Facebook page and why you should be focusing on it to build your business online.
Why it’s important to increase Facebook engagement to build your business
Facebook is a major player in social media where you can connect person to person. It’s a great way to build relationships that lead to business for you.
Being social is the most important part of what we’re talking about here. What you’ll see is a lot if people using this platform as an advertising broadcast platform and they restrict themselves to being a brand rather than a personality.
Users respond better to small/medium sized businesses when you respond as a person because it builds trust. By building a relationship you build trust and that lands leads.
Engagement has become such an important factor when Facebook pushes posts into feeds for a reason. Facebook wants people to build authentic relationships and not reward serial advertisers.
Everyone has become accustomed to direct advertising but social media has changed how marketing works especially for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
When you engage with others on Facebook by commenting, sharing, etc you become more visible to users who then see you as more trustworthy. They see the person behind the brand.
Use your personal profile!
For many this has not been utilized but if you are your brand then definitely be active online engaging with others so they can see the real you.
You can add comments etc. as your business page too but ideally focus on you and building up your reputation with users to build that trust factor.
Aim to become friends with others in your target market. Treat it like traditional networking taken online.
Ways to increase engagement
This leads into improving visibility. Advertising is very important for gaining visibility on Facebook now. Using the ads you’ll get your content in front of the right people but be wary of doing this yourself. Either commit to learning Facebook Ads really well or hire a professional but don’t guess at it. It can seem easy at first but suddenly prove to be a very costly mistake.
Aside from ads you can use Facebook Live (like we’re doing now!) to promote yourself. Ask people to share your broadcast and that will help get the word out about you and what you do. Even if you don’t see a big audience it’s not a big deal. After your video is done the metrics keep going and Facebook can see this.
It’s a great way to be yourself to build trust with your ideal users/clients and it gets you exposure on Facebook.
You can try more emotionally-driven content too and see if that gets shared. If that’s what your audience/user base wants then it’s definitely an avenue to explore. Use quotes, quizzes, or anything else that will resonate with them.
At the end of the day the idea is to design things for your target market. What do they want from you? Create content around user intent and satisfy it.
How often to post to social media
As a general rule of thumb (different businesses and situations will vary) look at your analytics. This is your best guide. Look for when your audience is most online and post accordingly. For a long time people thought 3 times a day was right. Then once a day. Algorithm changes were being factored in based on how posts were performing.
Twice a day is fine but space them out but it’s best to see how users are reacting and engaging already and then post accordingly.
Instagram is a little different but for Facebook you have to space things out so you don’t look like you’re spamming.
Instagram people can check much more often since it’s strictly mobile so don’t hold back much when posting to it but remember your follower audience and why they follow you when you post something.
With both the goal is to build your audience through engagement and using content that services your ideal users.
