How would you like it if you got leads consistently in your email inbox?
When I first started writing and sending newsletters, they fell to the bottom of my priority list. I felt pretty good if I got a newsletter out every 3 or 4 months. Looking back, I now realize was practically wasting my time.
If you’re thinking the point of sending out newsletters is to sell something to your list then keep watching because that’s not going to get you the leads you want!.
Back when I first started sending out newsletters, I missed the whole point of their purpose. I thought that just the fact that I sent SOMETHING was good enough. Whew, I’m glad that’s done! But of course little to no results came of them.
Since those then content and email marketing has come a long way and I’ve adapted to the changes.
While things have changed a lot email marketing is not as dead as some want to lead you to believe and newsletters are still one of the best ways to reach your ideal client. For some businesses email marketing delivers better results than social media!
Now that I’ve learned from my mistakes I create great newsletters for anyone who signs up and my results have vastly improved. That’s why today I’m sharing some advice with you on why you need to send out newsletters.
5 reasons why newsletters should be a top priority:
- This is an opportunity to build and develop the Know, Like and Trust factor with your followers who will then lead to paying clients and who are a source of referrals. By sending consistent newsletters to your list you are essentially reminding those followers of who you are, what you do, and to remind them to keep you in their sights for when they do need your product or services.
- Newsletters are a great way to remarket to lost website leads. They may not have been ready to sign when you first contacted them but now that they know more about what you do your newsletter can be the prompt that turns old leads into new clients. These same leads will then also be more likely to refer you to their own friends and colleagues looking for what you do.
- It’s also a time to get your brand and business in front of leads who may not be familiar with your unique selling position (USP). Your newsletter can show off your brand, business personality, and more. Whatever sets you apart and makes you unique in your industry can be a big part of your newsletters.
- With your newsletter you can build credibility and expertise about your industry in your follower’s eyes and you confirm what you promised when offering your users the opportunity to sign up. They signed up for a reason so sending out newsletters consistently to those interested leads is good for your business.
- A great email newsletter is an opportunity to showcase your offerings. While selling should be the last thing on your mind with your regular newsletters, because you are developing a list of followers who like what you have to say, they will also want to know about your upcoming new offering, sale or other special promotion. Follow the 80:20 rule. 80% value and 20% sales is a comfortable ratio for a solid newsletter.
Now you might be wondering how you use this to generate leads.
That’s the beauty of using the relationship-marketing model for your newsletters! When you consistently offer great value that you know your target market and followers will find useful, you will naturally get leads from those send outs who respond that are interested in your service offerings when the time is right for them.
And note I said consistently. Sending a quarterly newsletter is not going to get you the results you’re after. Even monthly is not ideal. If you can make the commitment to send out weekly newsletters, you will definitely notice an increase in qualified leads over time.
In saying that you do need to have people in your list in order to be able to take advantage of this content marketing avenue.
To fast track those efforts try incorporating SEO and SEM into your digital marketing strategies!
SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing and refers to the paid ads component of online marketing.
Using direct paid ad campaigns to a free giveaway landing page is your best bet. A free give away is a great tool to introduce leads to what you do and ideally get them to sign up for your newsletter when they get their free offering.
