What to be Aware of When Changing Your Niche Market

Are you thinking of changing your niche?

A couple of clients I’ve been working with lately have been established as leaders in their industry and they wanted to shift their niche a bit but are having a hard time with that.

Interestingly enough the challenges they are having are not necessarily how to change their niche but how to let go of their old niche.

From a marketer’s perspective, it’s something you really need to be clear on.

By changing your niche where, instead of focusing on one group of people that you want to attract into your business, we are now going to shift that focus and start attracting a different group. Or perhaps a narrowed down group… a sub niche of the larger niche.

It is important you try not to be everything to everyone so focusing on a sub-group of your niche could be a wise move.

The larger group might have encompassed the smaller group of people but in order to really appeal to that target market, you want to be able to speak their language and say the right things that will have them feeling, “This person really understands what I’m going through and can provide me with solutions to the problems that I’m experiencing.”

There’s no reason why you can’t change or narrow down your niche, but you need to decide which niche you want to focus on. You can’t do both. It’s really tough to do both from a brand positioning perspective.

So if you are ready to change your niche or change focus a little bit or narrow down your existing niche, you need to be ready to let go of what you were doing before and allow that shift to happen so you can then focus on the people in this new group with their problems and solutions to what they are facing.

I want to encourage you to be crystal clear on who you want to work with and also make sure you are ready to let go of the old niche you were focusing on before.
