Why Your Marketing Efforts Aren't Paying Off

Here’s Why Consistency Is Your Best Strategy

I had fallen off the wagon. Big time.

Anyone who knows me for any length of time has known that I have struggled with my weight for many years.

It probably all started back in grade eight when our PE class did a skin caliper test and I was deemed as “pleasantly plump”. To a self-conscious teenage girl, those words stung!

And that began my personal goal of no longer being pleasantly plump.

Over the years I have started (and stopped) many diets and workout routines, some with success and some not so successful.

Each time, I vowed this would be the one, the time I would reach that goal – and stick with it – so I could get that plump albatross off my back once and for all!

I followed the experts.
I followed the experts who talked to other experts.
I’ve read books and I’ve taken courses.
I’ve joined programs and memberships.
I’ve lifted weights, done cardio classes, attended yoga, gone the HIIT route, and so much more.
I’ve eaten healthy. (Yes, I know what I should be eating, or rather, what I should not be eating.)
I have fasted, taken supplements, and jumped into ice baths… you name it I’ve done it.

But that unwanted pleasantly plump feature of mine kept coming back.

And each failure had me blaming the diet, blaming the circumstances, and coming up with excuses, along with some very valid reasons why it didn’t work.

It’s so easy to lay blame elsewhere, isn’t it? It’s so easy to not take personal responsibility for our actions, or inaction, as the case may be.

But the one thing I hadn’t done is be consistent.

And after all these years of trial and error, it truly is consistency that will get me to my goal – consistency when it comes to following healthy guidelines, making healthy food choices, exercising, and staying active.

Sure, over the years, I’ve been consistent for a couple of weeks or a couple months, but not all the time.

Thus why I was consistently failing at reaching my goal.

And guess what? The same principle applies in business.

You can learn from the experts, read their books, take their courses, follow their programs, etc., but if you don’t apply their teaching and do it consistently, then you’re going to struggle at reaching your goals, too.

Being a business owner for more than 21 years, I know first-hand how challenging it can be to be successful. There are plenty of opportunities to lay blame, point fingers, and have very “valid” reasons for not reaching the level of success I set out to achieve.

But giving something a try for a few months and deeming it to be a failure is not going to get you anywhere.

What are you giving up on too quickly that, if you were more consistent at it, could be the very solution you are seeking?

What (or whom) are you blaming for your lack of success? Is it really true or is it just more convenient to not have to evaluate what you could be doing?

As for me, I’m back on the bandwagon – eating healthy, exercising every day, and vowing to be consistent with my efforts so that I will reach my goal before I know it.

Consistency is the key, and it’s a principle that can be applied both for personal and professional success.
