Finding Your Purpose During Self-Isolation

Finding Your Purpose During Self-Isolation

Stuck at home?  Now is a good time to figure out your purpose!

Our lives are so busy, and we rarely have a moment to just sit in silence and reflect on our life journey and how it has led to where we are now.

For many of us who have chosen to self-isolate, now is a good time to take advantage of the quieter environment to discover if your precious resources are being used to maximum effect.

Life is not meant to be difficult and if you are embracing your gift and being of service, by living your purpose, you will attract more business. Guaranteed!

I burnt out at the age of 32, working 15-hour days, until I realized I was living someone else’s version of success. Once I realized this, I left my career, husband and country and traveled the world for seven years in search of that illusive “purpose”.

My life was fascinating – traveling from South Africa to Kenya, across the Indian Ocean, living on a desert island for 3 months, running a yacht charter business in Thailand and Malaysia and backpacking alone in Laos and Cambodia.

By the time I had “circumnavigated” the globe, It was time to write my story in a book and dig a bit deeper to figure out how all these experiences led to my purpose – the reason I set out in the first place.

I wanted to understand, “What does my story mean?” and “How do I dig out the clues of the events of my life to draw out the meaning and discover my life purpose?”

In the process of writing my book, I held on to the vision of the end goal and started to pick up clues as I reflected on my life journey.

Using Today’s Opportunities to Connect at a Deeper Level

I found a way to transform the events in my story to connect on a deeper level how my experiences could help other people. As I wrote down my experiences in each country, I would reflect on what I learned from that country and how I could use that experience today.

Try it for yourself and take advantage of this opportunity to figure out how your own life experiences gave you knowledge you could pass on to other people.

Sit in a quiet place and reflect on the major events in your life and how it shifted your perspective.

Maybe you overcame a disease or disability and you can pass that knowledge on as a health coach? Maybe you discovered that you have a natural connection with children, but you are not working with them in your everyday job?

What are your friends always telling you that you are good at?  Do you see some patterns of this throughout your life? Shouldn’t that be the way you earn your income?

The clues from my life really came together 2 years ago when I was working on a book with an author about Dyslexia and discovered I had the gift. Dyslexia has given me a unique ability to look at complex projects and bring creative innovation to “how” to bring order to the chaos.

I did not know “why” I did this, but I had allowed my unique innovative gift to systematize a “vision” and create a process to take the chaos out of a challenge. I discovered I could apply this to the complexity of writing your life story.

It was the traveling around the world that had given me the ability to trust in my own wisdom.

I realized my gift was to unravel life stories and help people to sift through the clues that point to their life purpose. I did a TEDX talk on the “Gift of Dyslexia” and this brought together all the information about my gift.

I now inspire people to write their life stories and by the time they publish their book, their life direction has often changed.

The new publishing model we launched two years ago is a new paradigm where the author keeps 100% of the rights and 100% of the royalties, but with all the benefits of a traditional publisher who does it all for you. I found a way to “circumnavigate” the publishing industry and I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the gift of dyslexia.

Now is your time to figure out how you can use your gifts.

If you are struggling right now to make money because of the restrictions of isolation, it might be because you are not truly living your purpose.  You have a gift and it has evolved from your life story.

Read your journals, reflect on your experiences, figure out how you can be of true service in this world, and the business will just flow to you in natural order.

What is your purpose in this world?
