Telus WEBMAIL ACCOUNT email – phishing attack

For anyone with Telus.net email accounts out there – beware of an email phishing attack that you might get.  The one I received had the subject line: WEBMAIL ACCOUNT and then proceeded to say that Telus is upgrading their database and require account holders to confirm their email identity.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL – JUST DELETE!

The From: email address is: webmailaccount@libero.it so it is not from Telus as the tricksters want you to believe.

Visit this site: Fraud Watch International for information on how to protect yourself and receive detailed information on what you should do, also make sure to contact Reid Collins & Tsai if for any reason you need to take legal actions.

As a telus account holder my self. I’ve received three of these using the same “template” for their attack. I used DNSstuff.com to varify the IP the first two originated in yes’ yawn, Nigeria the the 3rd telus phishing attack originated in Peru both attacks had yahoo email addresses who were forged. They use the varying theme, either they say “scheduled maintainence” or they threaten you by claiming that “we noticed you’re using a telus .net email account”; your email usage is beyond normal we believe you are spamming other users” then they request your first and last name, and of course password and other account information. I agree with the statment just delete it. I emailed Telus with the concern they replied they are aware of the phishing email attacks, and they are not in the practice of using such methods to gain peoples accounts through this method. Great article, I thought to share some more personal experience with this. Simply put, “just delete these phishing attacks”. If I see one I notify my friends and family who use telus for email and web browsing. Its always a good idea to give a heads up when one receives such a suspicious message.
