3 Tips to Being More Conscious to Manifest Business Success

Being More Conscious to Manifest Business Success

As a leader of our business we make decisions daily and our actions determine the outcome of our reality.

Of course, we all want to be successful and be fulfilled whilst creatively expanding our business. However, subtle unknown beliefs will directly contribute to our emotional stability and resilience and ultimately affect our enjoyment and what we do.

For example, a teacher/student experience in our childhood may have left us with a healthy attitude towards failure. Alternatively, an unhealthy one where we could be scared to fail and do not even know it.

Making Conscious Choices

Tip One
If you cannot jump easily into the unknown, and have a tendency to want facts, details and controls before you decide, this behaviour is alerting you to an underlying FEAR.

If we are anxious about a choice, we will not recognise the smart ways that our mind will prevent us from taking expansive risks that could benefit our growth.

The mind may give you calculative and logical reasons why you should remain closed to an idea when in fact, it may have been the exact door you should have walked through.

Being Conscious About Fear

Tip Two
If you feel a fear, transform it from the body, and expand into heightened consciousness and turn it into empowerment and strength you feel throughout your body.

So the next piece of advice we are often given is to “feel the fear and do it anyways” ….

This moves me to the missed opportunity in this second piece of advice. If you have not yet transformed the fear you were experiencing and jumped in, that fear is still in your body. And as in the law of attraction, like draws like, so it will automatically lead to consequences that will bring the same fear up again for you.

The quality of your life will not move into greater comfort or joy, but instead the underlying fear will win.

There is a possibility that if you “felt the fear and did it anyways” you might find that exact decision will be unsuccessful too. (simply because why should life send you a gift if you have not yet transformed what needs to be seen?)

This is why being honest with yourself is so important and that your intelligence guides you to what is working for you and what is an illusion.

Many people are beginning to do the above exercise through engaging their mind, through reframing or attempting to put a spin that gives them a broader and more open, comfortable perspective.

The mind is thus adjusted to think differently from its original thought- and you sort of step in to assist the first thought. Neuro science tells us that a better quality of thought aids the connection of greater circuitry in our brains.

This is all great news but again an opportunity of ease in our life is being missed.  If we had used consciousness to transform the fear in the first place, it is gone forever, and the associated negative and undermining thoughts are also gone forever.

No more need to intervene to assist the mind in future because the energy has transmuted into its opposite form of inner strength. Thus, you get to experience a deeper peace within and ultimate fulfillment becomes easier to access as your own innate confidence rises to the surface.

Embracing Your Consciousness

Tip Three
Take the courage to dive in and heighten your consciousness since the only one who gains is you!

There is no greater joy than to be connected with your own pure presence within and the consciousness that helps to facilitate this also effortlessly brings in ideas, people, and experiences that will advance your business too.

Often these doors that open are far bigger than you could have ever imagined with your mind.

Last week, I heard many female leaders discuss their dismay at watching their male counterparts often steal their great ideas in the board room, leaving them frustrated. What they do not realise is that somewhere in their psyche is a fear to speak up and say “You stole my idea” and then bravely face the consequences of a possible lack of approval from counterparts for being honest.

Of course, through heightened consciousness, they would have the backbone to speak up, without fear of consequence and their ability to command respect would happen naturally.

They would not compare their accomplishments with others. They would not compete either. They would just know how to be authentic out of self-respect and their social mask of “being nice” would be transformed.

When you take the steps to become more conscious the expanded consciousness acts like an expanded vision for you. It is like wearing a pair of glasses that lets you see much more.  Not only does much more seem possible, but also you too become more as you embody the increase in inner strength and power that is yours to claim.

Being Consciously Courageous

It is often hard to face our own ego and look to see what it is truly going on, and why our behaviour is the way that it is.

We often inadvertently buy into concepts of “happiness” and “success” as if they are “out there” and we begin to live a life focused on possessing material gains, money and increased societal recognition & reputation.

We thus miss a very important opportunity and that is to truly enhance our confidence, increase our vision, and have balance in all parts of our life.

We lose out on being a contributor and trailblazer that can elevate many business and personal lives.

Through taking the courage to look at our inner state honestly the parts that want to be empowered and loved, AND the parts that are in competition with others, and judging them, we have a chance to be whole inside.

We finally come to a place of real happiness, success and fulfillment.

For with increased consciousness we arrive at the non-judgmental awareness of what is, but we are not fooled by ideas that keep us enslaved in societal norms that are now outdated.

When consciousness is part of your development program as a leader, unprecedented success of immeasurable form follows to keep all parts of your life, health, relationships, and work in harmony.

I hope to see more people take the jump to elevate their consciousness and have this priceless experience of completeness.

10 Ways to Attracting Clients Through Kindness

10 Ways to Attracting Clients Through Kindness

Why Being Generous in Your Business Will Result in More Loyal Customers

Have you ever noticed feeling compelled to do something for those who have helped you– even if they haven’t asked you to?

That’s the Law of Reciprocity at work.

This law says whatever you give, whether it’s money, time or effort… that it comes back to you with a tenfold return.

I know for a fact this law works as we’ve experienced it many times over the years.  Almost like clockwork, we notice a distinct increase in leads that come in after making a donation or doing something extra for a client.

How Relationship Marketing Incorporates the Law of Reciprocity

Some businesses lead with hard-selling tactics to drive you to buy.  This is called “push marketing”.  But others, using “inbound or relationship marketing” strategies, have discovered how to put the power of generosity to work in their business.

How do you think your business would change if, instead of TAKING you focused on GIVING? Once you shift your focus to serving others and creating value –  it changes everything.

How would your business change if you focused on giving rather than taking?Click To Tweet

Over time, your generosity creates a reputation that sets you apart and your rate of referrals will increase as well.

So how would you like to have not only more clients but more loyal ones too?

Here are ten ways to be more generous in your business to achieve that:

  1. Be a Great Resource. If anyone needs a referral, share vendor referrals of those you know and trust.  People will see you as the “go-to” person and come to you for recommendations.
  2. Give More Than Expected.  Doesn’t it feel nice when you walk into a hotel room and there’s a mint on your pillow?  It’s an unexpected surprise.

Here’s some ideas to get you started: Provide more value that what you charge.  Go the extra mile.  Give a surprise gift.  Deliver your product or service faster than promised.
  3. Provide Excellence.  Since your business needs to differentiate itself from your competitors, how about making it your mission to only offer top-quality products and services?

This includes customer service too: Respond to all email and phone messages promptly. Give clients uninterrupted attention.  Listen to and address concerns are some ways to do this.
  4. Serve Others. Zig Ziglar once said “You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.”  And Mary Kay’s empire was built on the premise of achieving success by helping someone else succeed.

Many entrepreneurs are in business because they are on a mission to serve others in some capacity. When you live your purpose, you’ll live a life of joy while making a difference.
  5. Open Yourself to Receiving.  Most of us were never taught how to receive. For instance, how do you typically respond when someone complements you? Do you push back and try to minimize their sincerity?

Same thing applies to your business – If you say “no” when clients, money or opportunities come your way, those opportunities will stop coming.

This means making space in your mind and heart for more.  It means accepting money, kindness, complements or assistance that is offered to you.   This keeps your flow of abundance open energetically.  You give and it comes back to you.
  6. Listen to Your Inner Voice.  Inner wisdom leads us to those who need our help.  Stop, listen and take action on those nudges.  Offer your attention, time, and advice in their hour of need.
  7. Follow The Golden Rule. I grew up with this rule ingrained into my psyche as a Brownie and Girl Guide. Essentially, treat others the way you wish to be treated – and that includes in business too.

When a company treats you right or sells you a terrific product, you feel happy. You feel loyal. You’re likely to buy more from that company. You’re likely to recommend that company’s products and services to friends, family and colleagues.

Make it your goal is to have the same thing be done for you.
  8. Perform Acts of Kindness.  Lift up others.  Empower others through a simple word of encouragement and inspiration. Share your vision of what you see is possible for them.

This article shares Small Acts of Kindness That Grow Your Bottom Line for some inspiration.
  9. Be Genuine.  Share yourself openly with those in your network.  Let them see the real you.  Build warm relationships with people around you.  Make them feel special.
  10. Practice Gratitude. When your heart is full of gratitude and you put forth effort to show your gratitude, really great things can happen.

Make it a practice every day to share gratitude.  Who has shared a referral?  Who taught you something?  Who is your favourite new customer and why?  What vendor did a great job on a project?

Show thanks for someone or something today and watch what happens.

Be Generous and Watch Your Business Grow

There are many other ways you can practice kindness and will see returns tenfold. Go volunteer, be a sponsor, donate funds to a worthy charity or even invest in a business that you believe in!

Remember as a business person we can serve with compassion, kindness, patience and respect. Being a good person not only makes you feel happier but it is also great for business.

So make it your mission to make someone’s day brighter every single day!

How Is Your ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ Working For You?

Gratitude

Why Expressing Gratitude Is Key to Your Success

The Law of Attraction is all about vibrations and its job description is to ‘match vibrations’. So, it stands to reason if you are grumbling about this and that in your life then… you will attract more things to grumble about.

On the other hand, if you are always expressing thanks and appreciation, your feeling positive will continue to attract the things that allow you to feel good. Your expression of gratitude might be towards people, circumstances, situations or things.

Your ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ Level

If you really want to know how well your own ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ is working for you look at your life.

How are your relationships with loved ones?
What state are your finances in? Do you feel like you could use some Rhinosure help?
Business always growing with fabulous clients who can’t get enough of you?
Is your health good you’re always 100% present and engaged with your clients?

Vibrational energies, i.e. frequency levels of energy, have been scientifically measured on a scale of 0 – 1000. ‘Gratitude’ resides just above ‘Joy’. Whatever emotion or vibration you are giving off it will be matched by the law of attraction giving you more of the same emotion.

The person most well known for measuring frequency levels of different emotions is Dr. David Hawkins. This is his ‘Map of Consciousness’ from his book ‘Power vs Force’ which indicates where certain emotions reside on a scale from 0 – 1000. Enlightened people like the Dali Lama would resonate closer to the 1000 frequency.

Power vs Force Chart

If you are resonating below 200 then you are giving off negative vibrations.

Any feelings you have of pride (false pride), anger, desire, fear, grief, apathy, guilt or shame keep you locked in a whirlpool of negative emotions. You pay an emotional price for hanging on to these emotions and not letting them go or be cleared from you body.

Eventually these negative emotions will show up as dis-ease in your body somewhere. Your mind and body are going to be their healthiest and happiest when your emotions rise above the 200 level.

Where Does ‘Gratitude’ Reside on Dr. Hawkins Chart?

According to one article* that stood out in my research:

“Gratitude resides just above Joy. In order to feel grateful, you need to feel contentment which is a joyful state of being. Contentment is regarded by Dalai Lama as the key ingredient for inner happiness. Gratitude is one of the main ingredients for happiness.

Gratitude includes appreciation. You can bring the energy of gratitude in your body by writing a list of things that you are grateful for, that you appreciate for every aspect of your life, especially for the bad ones (the parts that feel heavy, with problems and lacks).

Higher emotions, higher thoughts, therefore, higher vibrations (thoughts are vibrations as Abraham Hick told us) are lighter. The truth is light. Lower emotions, lower thoughts, therefore, lower vibrations are heavy. Lies are heavy.”

Why Would You Express Gratitude For Bad Things In Your Life?

The reason you want to express Gratitude for everything that comes into your life is because there is always something positive to learn from any situation – good or bad. And, from the Law of Attraction perspective focus on the ‘bad’ briefly so that you are not wallowing in your own misery or poor-me state for very long.

Find a different way to look at the situation that makes you feel more positive. It may not come right away but give it time and then raise your lower vibration to that higher state of Gratitude. You’ll feel better for making that choice!

Law Of Attraction: How To Engineer Your Brain To Succeed In Business

When it comes to building a prosperous business, your brain is the greatest tool you have.

It’s not an esoteric concept… but it does require discipline and laser-like focus.

Business Advisor and Mentor Dana Smithers explains in this quick interview how you can use psychology to position your mindset for success.

The vast majority of entrepreneurs fail to succeed in business because of their inability to engineer a solution-oriented mindset. They get boggled down in day-to-day conflict and pay the price when the perceived drama starts to drive them insane. Fortunately, there’s a solution to that. You must organize your everyday workload using SODAPDF (www.sodapdf.com). The very first fully functional online PDF solution designed to accommodate your busy lifestyle, offering a complete PDF application you can take with you wherever you go.

The end result: a miserable, overly sensitive brain that inevitably impedes progress.

If this sounds familiar, you’re in luck, because you’re about to rid yourself of this bad habit once and for all.

How can the Law of Attraction deliver the goods?

When it comes to business, the Law of Attraction is as simple a concept as it gets:

You attract success by removing your ego from the equation and by focusing your positive energy on whatever goal you set for yourself.

Oftentimes, this means you might have to ditch those clients who consistently try to nickel and dime you, for example.

For this to work, you have to make a commitment, right now, to refuse to be a slave to your biochemistry. Let it be a new fact of life.

You can master this in a short afternoon if you accept that some things will never be under your control. The one thing you can retain control of is your own attitude towards challenge and conflict.

So go forth and conquer – it’s time to cement your status as an entrepreneur who gets things done.

Why Having FOCUS Is Key To Manifesting What You Want

Why Having FOCUS Is Key To Manifesting What You Want

The Law of Attraction is all about vibrations and its job description is to ‘match vibrations’ and those are either positive or negative.

When you focus on what you want by putting out a positive vibe, the Law of Attraction is happy to bring you what you need to do, know or have.

If you find yourself grumbling about this and that in your life, how much you have to do and how you know you’ll never get it all done – well, the Law of Attraction just gives you more of that madness too!

Multitasking Is Not The Way To Start Your Day

Most entrepreneurs find themselves having to play a lot of different roles in their business and wear many different hats. It’s like you are a juggler with business tasks and personal tasks trying to keep them all going at the same time.

If you happen to be a mom-preneur or dad-preneur then you have the added responsibility of taking care of children too!

You might be someone who starts your day with an impressive ‘To Do List’ or, you might just ‘wing’ it and see how the day unfolds. Either way you most likely find yourself multitasking and not really accomplishing all that you wanted to.

The best way to start your day from a Law of Attraction perspective is to:

  1. Set your intention – ask yourself how you want to see your day unfolding – put the focus only on business goals (your personal goals can be handled in a different way on a different day)
  2. Create 3 business goals that you want to accomplish or get started on – prioritize what needs to get done by the urgency of the task (usually time sensitive)
  3. Remove each achieved goal and continue to create another list with just 3 goals – make them manageable, realistic goals that you know you will feel better once they are accomplished
  4. Celebrate your success – doesn’t matter how you celebrate just do it and if you can put in some movement with your celebration (happy dances are good) to anchor this great feeling in your body, all the better
  5. Do ‘segment intentions’ – if you find yourself pulled away from something you had prioritized because something just came to you that is time sensitive then, set another intention

Focus On What You Want and Not On What You Do Not Want

You may have never thought of this but everything you decide you ‘want’ you arrived at that decision by noticing what you ‘do not want’. In Law of Attraction lingo we call this getting to CLARITY from CONTRAST.

When you go into a new restaurant you finally decide what you do want by looking at everything you don’t want. You use this technique throughout your personal and professional lives whether you are aware of it or not.

If you are working on several different projects, think about narrowing those down and focus on  only 1 or 2 and until you have achieved what you wanted to achieve.

When you are unfocused and have too many goals or projects on the go then you are being ‘wishy washy’ and the Law of Attraction doesn’t know what you really want so it too, will dilute what you manifest.

Take 1 project and create a list of everything you ‘Don’t Want aka Contrast’ and then create another list of everything you ‘Do Want aka Clarity’.

Delete everything you don’t want and focus only on the new list which gives you the clarity of what you do want!

10 Superstar Networking Tips to Grow Your Business

10 Superstar Networking Tips to Grow Your Business

One of the best investments you can make as a solopreneur or business person is in your personal development.  As a business owner you can only grow as far as your skills and knowledge can take you.

That’s why attending seminars, conferences and workshops is such a valuable experience.

I recently attended the WOW (Woman of Worth) Conference in Vernon BC and it was a fantastic experience. The founder, Christine Awram, has been holding these conferences for several years. Each event promises excellent motivational and inspirational speakers plus great opportunities to meet and mingle with like-minded women.

Dana Smithers - Law of AttractionThis year was exceptionally great due to one of our clients, Dana Smithers, being invited to be one of the keynote speakers.

She talked about the Law of Attraction and started a chain reaction of events that lead me to being up on stage taking a bow to a standing ovation! (The exercise was to put my intention out to the world that I am open to receiving speaking opportunities so hey, if you know of any….)

In addition to gaining next-level strategies, events like these offer an incredible opportunity to meet prospects, JV partners, and vendors.

So how can you make the most of your next event? Here’s some pro tips to network like a superstar.

  1. Rock Your Appearance

Let your outfit be a conversation starter. Wear something that makes you feel like a million bucks and helps you radiate confidence.

Bring a killer accessory like a unique pin, scarf, or pair of shoes that gets you noticed.  Make a great first impression that makes people think “I have to meet that person.”

  2. Prepare Yourself Mentally

Know your purpose for being there.  Be passionate about what you do and let it shine.

What do you want to learn? Look at the list of speakers and make a point to say hello to them. Ask yourself what 3 types of people you’d like to meet.  Get specific.  Visualize these people in the morning before the workshop or conference begins.

This will help you attract exactly the right type of connections you will benefit most from.

  3. Show Up Early

Arrive with extra time so you can grab a coffee, visit the vendor tables, and get to know a few people before everything starts to get busy. Be on the lookout for  people with whom you feel you can connect with and strike up a conversation with them.

Attending early also gives you an opportunity to get a seat close enough to better see and hear the on-stage happenings.

  4. Be a Giver

Have you ever met someone whom you feel wants to get something from you?  It gives off a bad negative energy, doesn’t it?  Avoid this from happening to you by shifting your energy to one of abundance and ask yourself how you can best serve others.

When you meet someone be curious.  Get to know them.  Ask questions.  Find out how you can help this person.

There is always a resource, compliment, connection, book, tip, or tool that you can offer to help someone.

Can you interview them on your podcast?  Can you review their book on your blog? Can you co-host a webinar with them? While I was at the WOW event, I recorded 3 video eTips and did a couple of Facebook LIVE How can you capitalize on your time in a similar manner?

  5. Ask for Their Business Card

It is always better to ask for the other person’s card.  Asking for their card feels better than shoving yours in their hand.

Plus that leaves you in control so that you can send a follow-up when you return from the event.

Write a note about what you learned or spoke about with them on the card so you can reference it when you write them afterwards.

  6. Share the Event Socially

Social Media is a great tool for building and maintaining relationships. Take plenty of pics at the event to share on social media.

Christine Awram of Woman of WorthDo Facebook LIVE on location. Your followers want to see where you are.  Take pictures with the speakers and other people you meet.

This is me with Christine after the event was over. As you can see, wine is a big part of her brand. That and chocolate!

Plus you can send these pictures to the friends you meet in your follow up.

Try tagging them on social media and give them a shout out saying how nice it was to meet them.  You can attach a picture with them in a follow-up email.  This is a heartfelt way to share warmth with a new connection.

  7. Switch it Up

Try sitting with different people at lunch.  Join groups for after workshop dinner and conversation.  Sometimes the chit-chat that occurs before and after the event can lead to the best connections.

  8. Step Up to the Mike

If there is a Q&A opportunity, step up to the microphone and let your question be heard.  You’ll get a chance to introduce yourself to the whole room and get expert answers to your question.

Often times people will come up to you afterwards and say how they related to what you shared.

  9. Give a Testimonial

If you loved the event, be vocal about it. Tell the event coordinator and offer a testimonial.  You can also record a Facebook video testimonial and tag the event coordinator on social media.

Email a written testimonial to the event host. They may post it on their website and give you massive exposure.

  10. Love ’em Up

There is a Chinese proverb that says “A bit of fragrance clings to the hand that gives flowers.” When you get back home after the event, the most important part is following up with and nurturing relationships you made.

Here it’s a strategy of quality, not quantity.  Sort through the cards you received.  Narrow them down to the few people you had a real connection with and send a warm, genuine email.

Is there any further suggestion or resource you can send them as a follow-up to your conversation? You want them to experience their life is better now having met you.

And don’t forget to post to your social media accounts and send an email to your list about your experience too!

Attending industry conferences or seminars keep you up-to-date with the latest changes that are occurring within the industry.  But equally valuable is the chance to meet other like-minded individuals and build connections that can last a lifetime.

What to Do When Your Business Faces a Fork in the Road

What to do when your Business faces a fork in the road

Every entrepreneur comes to a place in their personal and business life where they have to make a choice. That choice requires they make a decision and answer this question “Do I go this way or, do I go that way?” And, it’s not always easy making a decision when it’s related to your business.

Factors To Consider In Your Business

There are many factors for you to consider like business relationships, your finances and the health of your business.

For example you might be in a place in your business where you need to decide if you want to hire a virtual assistant, a social media person or invest in a coach or a new training program. How does every decision affect your finances and the health of your business and your own personal health?

If you are in a business relationship you might have to decide how much time you spend with some clients over other clients.

Does every relationship have the same value in terms of the financials but also the personal satisfaction of the relationship?

There Is A Process To Make the ‘Right’ Decision At This Time

Every decision that you make is going to have a consequence in your life. It’s often a good idea to take some time and really think through the decision you have to make.

If you have good support from entrepreneurs that you respect and appreciate seeking advice from, then engage them in the process to help you.

Base Your Decisions On These 7 Factors:

  1. Try the decision on for size – in other words just as if you were trying on a new outfit you want to ‘see’ what that would look like for you – run the movie to the last scene
  2. Think about all the possibilities –for each decision you are going to make
  3. Think about the consequences – if you choose one over another
  4. Think about the consequences – if you do nothing
  5. Pay attention to how you feel – which decision feels like a better decision in your body (aka gut feeling)
  6. Check in with your heart – if you have heart-based business does the decision you are going to make warm your heart

And finally…

  1. If there was nothing holding you back – no self-doubt about your ability to achieve the success you want if you take the fork in the road that feels right to you, no big fear around money issues and you had the energy to do the work you desire to achieve – which road would you go down?

Your Next Steps Once You Decide Which Road To Go Down

  • Commit to the road that you decide to travel down
  • Stick to the decision you have made
  • Focus one hundred percent on the new road ahead of you
  • Release any fear about this being the right road now

From a Law of Attraction perspective, the more attention, energy and focus you put on your decision, the greater will be your ability to attract what you want. And if you base your decision on answering ‘How may I serve?’ the more heart-centered clients you will attract.

How to React Positively to a Negative Client Using Law of Attraction

How to React Positively to a Negative Client Using Law of Attraction

At some point in time every entrepreneur receives a negative comment from a client or customer. If you been arrested, you are probably wondering who is the best drunk driving lawyer in town.

While it’s unavoidable in business the outcome of what started out as something negative can be turned around to something that is positive. In fact it’s possible that the client who was complaining about something could turn into one of your best referral clients!

It all depends on how you decide to communicate back to that client.

Let’s look at a few different scenarios where you received a negative comment that fired you up so much that your first reaction was anger and maybe your thought process was along the lines of ‘Grrrr I provided an exceptional service to them they just didn’t do their part!’

And let’s be real here – it might be the client that you knew was going to be high maintenance and never satisfied but you took them on as a client anyway because a) you needed the money or b) you didn’t think it would be so bad.

And from a Law of Attraction perspective your ‘gut’ feeling was right and now you know that next time you’ll pay attention to what you ‘feel’!

But in the meantime you have to deal with a negative complaint. And because we all live in a very ‘high-tech low-touch’ world you may have received that complaint via an email or from a variety of social media sites where you either post or comment.

Woman-getting-rejection-on-phoneHowever you received it most likely you will have a negative reaction and want to react back right away with something equally as negative.

And if this happens to be posted in a public place you know that typing those words, with those negative vibes attached that this can hurt your business reputation in so many ways. And you will attract more of the same!

Another scenario may be that you received a phone call from a client or customer with a complaint and all you wanted to do was slam the phone down but of course, professional entrepreneur that you are, you won’t do this.

So here is where knowing how to use the Law of Attraction deliberately can save the day for you.

You can easily turn what could be a bad-reaction-disaster into a positive-high-vibe-response where both you and your client or customer are happy with the outcome of the communication.

  • Observe your feelings and ‘do nothing at first or ‘say nothing’ if it is a phone call
  • Briefly’ let your emotions out – have a hissy fit, go down a rabbit hole or take a time-out; do whatever you need to do to release those emotions
  • Take 3 deep breaths – in and out
  • Give some thought to the situation (not the emotions) and decide if the complaint is valid or not
  • Think about your response by setting your intention – think about what you want the outcome to be with the ‘best case scenario’ top of mind

Then and only then…

  • If possible phone your client or customer and listen to what they have to say. Many times what you think is the problem is not really the problem and we all know that high-tech communication can easily be misunderstood.
  • Express gratitude for the client or customer for bringing this to your attention (you are taking the high-vibe road here)
  • Ask the client or customer if there is anything else you can help them with and when heartfelt they will know that you were sincere in wanting to listen and respond to their complaint.

And then wait for them to refer new clients to you because of your positive high-vibe professional customer service!

11 Signs It’s Time to Fire a Client

11 Signs It’s Time to Fire a Client

We have all had them. Especially when working in the service industry.  There are some clients that you can’t charge enough to make it worth the stress, headaches, and frustration they create.

I had heard someone say once, “sometimes the cost of a dollar is too high”. Indeed. When you recognize that a client is more trouble than they are worth, it’s time to let them go.

But how do you know when enough is enough?

Firing a client - we have to drop youAs a business owner, it goes against all instincts to turn away business and making money, but what happens at an energetic level is not something to ignore.

When things go sour, often our entrepreneurial instincts kick into high gear and we work harder at making the client happy, focus more on them to help turn things around, and then lose sleep over it anyway.

All of that expended energy results in complete frustration that nothing seems to work and you have lost other business because you couldn’t focus on other clients as much as they needed or have time to get new business with your ideal client.

Energetically, when you focus on a negative situation, it keeps your business stuck in that negativity causing your business to have no opportunity for expansion.

When Should You Let a Client Go?

Has your once dream client turned into your worst nightmare? At first some clients might seem like “the bomb” but after working together on a closer basis you may notice some signs to make you think again about keeping them as a client.

Here’s 11 possible client types you might be encountering that should make you question if they are worth holding onto in your business:

  1. The Non-Pleasers. There are some super picky clients where no matter how hard you try to please them will never be happy.

Often it’s because they don’t know what they want; sometimes they keep changing their mind; or maybe they have a colleague or assistant giving them ill-fitted advice.

But for whatever the reason, you end up putting forth a lot of extra effort to make them happy.  And often at no charge, adversely affecting your bottom line.
  2. The Blamers. When you offer a service, you can’t guarantee the success of the client.  No matter what you’ve been asked to do, the role of the client is paramount to a successful outcome.

You can’t work miracles if they are not following your instructions, thwarting your efforts with them second-guessing you (and themselves) or not doing their part to make the project successful.

These people tend to jump from one resource to another, thinking their failures are always someone else’s fault instead of looking at what they are doing (or not doing) to create these situations.

You’re in a no-win situation with this type of client.
  3. The Slow-Payers. Everyone’s favourite client is the one who pays an invoice immediately upon receipt.  But when a client is continually late in paying their invoices or worst yet, gets behind in payments, it’s hard to give them your best service.

It’s much more satisfying to spend time working with clients who pay promptly. Keeping them on as a client is enabling their bad behaviours and telling them it’s OK not to pay you on time.
  4. The Cost-Complainers. You know the kind, when they constantly complain about how much this is costing them, asking for discounts and feeling they deserve price breaks.

‘Frugal Fred’s are a pain in the butt to work for.  They keep trying to get you to do everything for nothing. More keeps getting added to your plate with the assumption it should all be included in the original cost.

Sometimes they try to make you feel guilty by sharing their ‘temporary’ financial problems with you and promise they’ll pay you once they get the big  break that’s ‘just around the corner’. Don’t fall for their story.

Greatness doesn’t go on sale. When a client doesn’t value the quality of service you provide, then you’re not being valued. Period.

Your ideal client will gladly pay what you are worth without complaint.
  5. The Panicked-Insisters. These types of clients want everything done quickly and at the last minute, causing you to set aside other, just as important work, so they can be made happy.

Their lack of planning does not make an emergency on your part. If they insist on giving you projects with no notice, charge a hefty rush fee.  If these quick turnaround demands continue, you may consider dropping them as a client.

Ideal clients will respect the time needed and allow a deadline that let’s you do your best work for them.
  6. The Non-Listeners. Nothing makes me more frustrated than when someone hires an expert, asks for what you think, pauses, and then says “I think we should do it this way instead.”

Or they will get your opinion and then go ask their friends, assistants and others in related industries to see if your suggestion is what they should do or not.

Everyone has an opinion and many times the other people asked are not at all qualified to provide expert advice. This second-guessing only wastes time and effort and is a sure-sign of the clients’ self-uncertainty on being able to make clear decisions.

And of course, when you do what they ask and they don’t get results, they blame you (see #2 client type above.)

If they want to hire an expert, they should be “coachable” and ready to implement your advice and strategies with confidence in your abilities. If that confidence is not there, they need to find someone else they can be confident with.
  7. The Abusers. I had a client years ago who literally threatened me when his email wasn’t working the way he thought it should. His misunderstanding of how email works resulted in him blaming me for his frustrations, treating me with disrespect and bullying me terribly. I was truly afraid.

Some clients are downright abusive.  They talk down to you and push you around. When a client starts to be a bully, prepare to divorce them right away! No one deserves that kind of treatment.
  8. The Stress-Causers. A prime indicator of this type of client is when you see they are calling on the phone and your heart sinks, anxiety kicks in and you don’t want to answer.

We had a client once who was a husband/wife team.  The husband was so personable, warm and pleasant.  But when they wife called, she was demanding, abrupt, and even intimidating.  It made it very difficult to answer the phone, knowing I was about to have a difficult conversation with her.

Working with clients that cause you undue stress and anxiety while trying your best to make them happy are simply not worth the effort. Spend that energy on finding your ideal client instead.
  9. The Personality-Clashers. Sometimes personalities don’t mesh. It happens.  Respect yourself enough not to put up with clients that aren’t a JOY to serve.
  10. The Energy-Vampires. Some clients are literally energy black holes. They are demanding and need all your time. They suck up all your joy and energy and you are literally exhausted after working with them.

What’s worse is they are taking up space for a perfect client you could be working with. Don’t settle for clients that drain you.  Choose clients that energize you.
  11. The Unreasonable-Demanders. When clients want you to be an expert in something you’re not and demand you do the work anyway is setting you up  for failure.

If you succumb to them, you’ll wind up in a world of trouble spending hours trying to do something, making mistakes, and not getting the desired results.

Just say ‘no’ to jobs that aren’t in your area of expertise. Instead, refer them to someone else who is much better equipped for that particular request.

After many years in the business, we’ve had all kinds of crazy situations that clearly taught me what we don’t want in a client.

The best advice I can give is to be very clear about who your ideal client is and how you want to be treated.  Remind clients of boundaries as needed and be firm with maintaining them.  Life is too short to just work for the dollar.

As business owners we have a right to work with clients who bring us extreme joy and satisfaction.  That way we can do our best work.

Here’s to finding high-end ideal clients who are ready to work with you, have the money to hire you, understand the value of your work.

Have you ever experienced any of these 11 client types?  If so, how did you handle them?

To your success,
