Thanks for the tips Susan. Customer service should definitely be a priority for all business people. Without impeccable customer service we don’t get the referrals. With a background in Real Estate I know how valuable referrals are. They are basically free leads. These are the people that we didn’t have to use advertising dollars to capture. And most people are only to happy to recommend a service to their friends if they themselves have had a good experience. Love your tips, always good reminders

    • Great point Diana, referring to referrals as free leads is quite true! Every business can be very busy if they kept that in mind!

  • Great tips – it is really about getting back to basics… the PEOPLE that we serve! Referral, word of mouth, customer service and being accessible are all about building genuine connection with potential clients.

    • Thanks ling and not only potential clients but actual clients too! Keep them happy by offering exceptional service and they’ll be happy to tell others about you!

Susan, A great reminder! Yes, i do appreciate that you answer your phone! I agree, a satisfied customer can be the best reference; testimonials do help. What do you think about businesses that ‘bribe’ clients for referrals with promises of gifts or discounts? I don’t like it, and I know you don’t do that….Doesn’t this ‘pushing’ tarnish the referral process?

    • I can understand why some business owners think they may need to resort to bribing to get a testimonial – sometimes it’s hard to get people to write one for you! But I think there are better ways than “bribing” and if one has to resort to such tactic, they should ask themselves why their clients are not so ready, willing and able to write out a happy testament. Maybe it’s a sign that there’s room for improvement.
