How To Build Credibility And Get More Clients

Today’s eTip is about the value of building credibility with your ideal clients so you can earn more customers.

Building your credibility

Something I really encourage everyone to do when running a business is to blog. Blogging is a great way to build your credibility with peers and followers using your own expertise and knowledge of your industry.

The idea is to post on a schedule that allows you to draft unique, engaging content relevant to your ideal clients.

Whether that is once a week, every two weeks, or once a month it’s important to consistently have a voice that establishes your knowledge of your industry.

Once a month is not ideal but it’s better than not blogging at all. Write more often to establish the know, like and trust factors that are so important to showcasing your knowledge of your industry.

Posting an article once a week or even more often than that is the best way to build up your reputation and credibility. You’re getting your name and voice out there as an authority on what you do.

Get your content out there on social media

Once you have your content it’s important to get eyes on it.

Post about your content on your various social media profiles and let users know about your article. Content marketing has become the crux of online marketing so once you have your unique new piece of content, share it with others on your social media profiles.

Include your new content in any newsletter you send out so your established users know about it. If you’re already sending out updates through an email newsletter then it’s a good idea to include something about your latest blog!

When you seed your content on social media you get your unique ideas out to an audience interested in what you do.

You want to convey what the value is of what you do. But don’t just use your social media for self promotion. Build a community around your interest and expertise in your business.

Show users that you are the answer to their questions by talking about how you do what you do not just who you are. Self promotion is good but your social media should be a lot more than advertising yourself.

Showcase your success

Testimonials from past clients are great to have on your website and they’re also great for including in your content and on social media.

If you are able to get a previous client to go on video attesting to your expertise that is even better.

Get links back to active, live sites to go with your testimonial. There are a lot of fraudulent testimonials out there so the more you can do to validate yours the better.

There are literally businesses who offer fake testimonials. A testimonial being believable is essential to it’s value so do whatever you can to allow your users to confirm the testimonial is real.

On our own site we post a link back to the client’s site so users can see for themselves who left it and that it is a real testimonial.

Partner Up

Another thing you can to is leverage the credibility of other people by forming partnerships with them.

Any sort of collaborative content is great such as interviews with them or anything else you can do that shows they have committed to attesting to your value in your industry.

Choose people in collaborative industries not necessarily competitors or directly related individuals in your industry.

You have seen in my previous eTips how we’ve gone about it. We showcase others and their expertise and we all benefit from the increased exposure.

Try a Facebook live Q and A or some other video effort through Facebook. It all helps build your know, like, and trust factor with your clients.

This helps you build your credibility to help gain trust so more users buy from you so keep that in mind when you’re drafting your content and seeding it through social media channels.

How to Incorporate Content Marketing into Twitter

Today we’re going to look at how to use content marketing to drive traffic to your website from Twitter.

 

Make Sure You Have the Right Content

The first thing to cover is that when doing content marketing be sure to have unique content that is applicable to your target market.

Make sure you take into account demographic information when creating your content so you make and share the right information for your desired audience.

Using Twitter to Promote Your Content

This video is about driving traffic to your blog with a focus on using Twitter for content marketing.

Post about your blog/content on Twitter often because it drives users towards your content.

Try 10 – 15 Tweets per day about your content spread throughout the day.

Don’t worry about how recent the content has been produced ad instead focus on its relevance to your users. If it’s still relevant then keep sharing!

Even if its 2- 3 years old you can keep sharing it. Users may have forgotten they saw it the first time or it may not have been relevant to them before but is now.

Share other user’s content as well if it is useful to your users and compatible with your content and brand.

Get yourself a tool like Hootsuite that allows you to schedule your tweets throughout the day.

Schedule your tweets so they appear when you know your followers are going to be online.

Hootsuite has a great auto-schedule tool you can use for this.

When you have a new article on your blog you can share that 2 -3 times per day right up until you post your next new blog post.

Try varying the title/tweets though so it’s not repetitious.

Add hashtags that are relevant to the content you’re sharing. For my video eTips I use #eTip.

You can even ask for a retweet. Try Please RT and sometimes people will share it!

Try the paid reach options. It will help get your content and brand out to many more people.

The more who see it the more chances you have of someone signing up or purchasing from you or signing up for your newsletter.

Does it freak you out to do videos that will help with your online marketing efforts?

Videos play a big role in SEO that can drive qualified traffic back to your website. Take advantage of the momentum video has right now. Today’s video eTip shares some ideas on how to do that.

 

Considering YouTube is a major search engine, there’s great opportunity for your business to take advantage of that real estate and expose your business brand to a larger audience.

How to Incorporate Video Into Your Online Marketing

Right now video is hot – it’s capturing people’s interest and business owners should take advantage of this momentum.

One way to do that is incorporate video into your marketing methods while utilizing search engine optimization methods to those videos for extra impact.

So think of a topic your target audience would find of interest, or help answer a question they might be typing into Google, and do a video on that subject.

These searchers will find your video, watch your content and now be further exposed to your business brand and what you have to offer.

Even if they may not be shopping around specifically for your product or service at that moment, they are now aware of you and will think of you if the need arises or perhaps refer you to others.

What to do with Video to Maximize Your Brand Exposure

When you create a video, first add it to YouTube but also add it to your WordPress blog for even more business exposure.

This is what I’m doing with these video eTips by embedding my YouTube video here into a blog post. Now when people do a search on my video topics, they will either find my video in YouTube or here in my blog.

Videos are a part of what’s known as relationship or pull marketing and may not get you immediate results but will give you long-term benefits in brand exposure and recognition.

Give Your Videos SEO Juice for Ideal Exposure

Your goal is to get in the top 3 pages of search results.

Do this by ensuring your video title and description is SEO optimized with brand-related keywords so the search engines pick it up when your target market is doing a search on your topics.

You’ll want to SEO optimize your YouTube video views as well as the WordPress blog post that has your embedded video into it with keyword-rich title and description meta tags.

Blog Content SEO to Boost Search Result Rankings

Want to make sure you get the best Google rankings possible for your blog articles? Then you need to be more strategic with what you’re writing, who you’re writing for and how often you’re writing.

Blog article writing is extremely important for many reasons. It is a key component to your content marketing strategy in efforts to drive traffic back to your website.

You want to make sure people find your blog articles and one way that can happen is ensuring the search engines are displaying your articles in the search results when people are searching for your blog article topic.

Consistency and Frequency are Key to Blog SEO Success

Writing a new blog article only once every three months is not going to earn you any Brownie points.

Once a week is far better and even more often that that if possible. The reason being, Google will notice that your website is being updated frequently and will reward your search rankings as a result.

Being consistent is not necessarily related to SEO but it is related to your readers knowing they can rely on you posting a new article in a consistent manner, enhancing the strength of your followers.

Write for Your Audience

Speaking of followers, this is another key component to blog writing. You want to make sure you are writing for the people you want to attract to your website.

These are the people who are most likely to hire or buy from you – your ideal target market – so writing articles they will find of value is paramount.

When you pick a blog topic, ensure it’s on a subject your target audience is going to be interested in. Think about what they might typing in the search engines to find answers about. What will they find of value or entertaining and that’s what you want to write about?

Include SEO Keywords

When writing your post, make sure you have included keywords your target market would most likely type in the search engines when finding information that’s related to your article.

But don’t keyword stuff! (Watch this previous eTip about black hat SEO here.)

Using good keywords in the HTML Meta tags are also good SEO practices.

With each article you write, ensure your keyword is included in the title tag and description tag along with 3-4 mentions of it throughout the body of your piece.

Make the title tag captivating so it pulls your audience in and compels them to read your article.

Use a Hero Image

Including a large hero image at the top of your article is also important. This will capture your reader’s attention and be more apt to compel them to keep reading.

Your image can also be SEO optimized by naming the image file using your keyword. The keyword phrase should also be included in the image ALT tag.

The hero image is also very effective in grabbing attention on social media.

Last week I wrote about the basic search engine optimization principles all entrepreneurs and business owners should be aware of when representing their business online.

And because search engine optimization can be a complex subject, I thought we’d dive further into keywords.

After reading this article, you will be well-informed on the importance of keywords for your website and how to find and use highly effective keywords in order to make your website search engine friendly.

The Importance of Keywords in Your Website Content

How often do you update the content on your website? What about your blog? Has it been abandoned?Falling prey to the busy world of entrepreneurship?

The thing is, search engines love new, current and unique content. They pull the freshest and most relevant content each time a search is performed.

So if your site hasn’t been updated regularly, you can bet your competitor’s content will rank higher than yours in the search results.

To avoid being ignored by Google and lose out on important organic traffic to your website, it’s important to update it often.

A great way to do this is by consistently adding a new blog article at minimum once a month but more often will get you better results.

To ensure you provide new and exciting content for Google to index, use different keywords for each article that focus around a specific topic or theme.

Be Careful With Keyword Density

Adding keywords to your blog and website copy is vitally important for SEO but some people can get a little too overzealous and incorporate far too many into their prose.

They write articles using a specific keyword a dozen or more times while aiming for high “keyword density” to let the search engines know they’re targeting that word or phrase.

Unfortunately this strategy actually works against them due to search engines penalizing keyword stuffing.

Instead, focus each piece of content around one or two keywords and let synonyms, variations and so on come up naturally.

Short Tail Vs. Long Tail Keywords

There are two types of keywords to be aware of when writing with SEO in mind: Short Tail and Long Tail.

Simply, short tail keywords are 3 words or less. Long tail are a little different. They are more than 3 words, more targeted and not as broad as short tail.

An example of a short tail keyword would be: “Business ideas” where this would be a highly competitive phrase due to it being so general.

A long tail keyword is more specific such as: “Small business ideas for women entrepreneurs”.

Which then begs the question:

Which Is Better: Short Tail or Long tail?

Short tail keywords have several things working for and against them. If you are trying to drive a lot of traffic to your site, you should use short tail keywords.

But the challenge is if your site is new, you are starting at the back of a very long line while facing an up-hill battle.

Simplifying your options in the table below, you’ll see that long tail keywords are the far better choice for focus and more importantly, getting the highly coveted conversions:

Finding Ideal Keywords for Website Copy

Keyword research is the process of finding the right keywords in your niche market. This step is important if you wish to grow your blog/website in a shorter span of time.

There are various methods you can use to find keywords. Here are a few we prefer to use at eVision Media:

  6. Seed Keywords (Free) Create your own scenarios; very useful for specific niches.

  8. Keyword Tool Dominator (Free Trial) Uses Google, Amazon, You Tube and Bing databases.
  9. Term Explorer (Free Trial) Used by many in-house and SEO-based companies.
  10. SEO Cockpit (Paid) More useful in Pay Per Click paid advertising scenarios.
  11. SEM Rush (Paid) An online tool that lets you find great keywords. You can also put in the URL of a website and it shows all the keywords your website is ranking for.
  12. Word Tracker (Free) One of the best free alternative tools to the Google Keyword Planner that reveals 1000’s of profitable longtail keywords with SEO competition.
  13. Moz Keyword Explorer (Free Trial) Great tool to discover and prioritize the best keywords to target.
  14. Buzz Sumo  (Free Trial) Helps you see what’s being shared so you can get a handle on what’s popular on social networking.
  15. Keyword Tool (Free) One of our favourites. A great Keyword tool that helps you find the keywords people are typing as a Google Search.

There are many benefits to conducting high level keyword researches, including this can lead to thousands upon thousands of long-tail searches.

You probably won’t use all 15 of these tools since many provide the same level of features, but it’s worth it to experiment with several if you want to tackle SEO alone without the expertise of an SEO professional.

Why You Should Hire a SEO Professional

Hiring an SEO professional saves time. Trying to do your own SEO will take up a lot of time, especially if you don’t know a lot about marketing or SEO.

Running a full SEO campaign can be a daunting task to handle alone; fortunately, SEO experts have the knowledge and expertise to do this much faster and more proficiently than someone who is also focused on running their business in a different industry.

Hiring a professional will avoid you from making costly mistakes.

A little mistake that you make now could cause large problems for you in the eyes of the major search engines later.

Some examples include using your primary keyword too often or giving the images in your blog posts the wrong name. SEO mistakes like these can get your website penalized or maybe even blacklisted by Google.

The key is to ensure you are honing in on what actually matters to your audience.

It’s imperative you know who would want to buy your products or services and what they’re searching for in the search engines in order for them to find your website as the solution to their needs.

Your initial instincts may be correct, but you might be missing things that could gain additional website traffic, potential relationship opportunities, or new market segments to your business.

Therefore, proper due diligence is paramount in order to map your target audience to the keywords, topics, and phrases they’re using in and around your industry.

Create SEO-Driven Content

Writing only for search engines usually makes your content boring. Typically that strategy won’t help to  convert your visitors into customers.

It’s far better to focus on people first. Make your content as value-driven as possible and then optimize it for search engine bots without sacrificing the quality of your content.

The underlying content is extremely important. Too many people skimp on content but it’s one of the major anchors that tether you to Google’s relevancy algorithms.

The problem we see a lot of entrepreneurs run into is them creating content “they” think is perfect and sounds great to them but SEO wise, can at times be utterly worthless.

Being authentic is important but do so while factoring in the reason why you’re creating the content in the first place with marketing, branding, lead generation and of course SEO in mind.

Thin content with errors, or duplicate content and spun or spam content can really hurt you.

Instead, the content not only has to be lengthy, but it has to be well-written, keyword rich and highly engaging where readers are spending a good amount of time digesting and consuming that content.

Content Creation for SEO Success

As you create content, you’ll want to make sure each page is optimized for:

  • Page speed,
  • bot crawling,
  • responsive friendliness, and
  • overall findability.

An Initial investment in a site audit or recommendations for establishing a few initial best practices will save you much time and money in the long run.

Ideas for new content can be gathered from questions your own clients often ask or visit online forums and social media to find questions around your industry, products, and marketplace for more inspiration.

Check the competition with content ideas to ensure you’re on par with your competitors when it comes to covering topics and questions in the industry concerning your company.

Manage Your Keywords Wisely

The key to pleasing both search engines and visitors is to have quality content on our website that includes keywords your target market would be using in the search engines when looking for a solution to a problem your business can solve.

To do this, you want to run your keywords and topics through a tool like Google’s Keyword Planner to make sure the topics and keywords you have chosen have enough search volume and potential traffic to make them worthwhile.

Be sure to take into account the relevance of the search to your audience.

The narrower the topic focus, the lower the traffic typically. This is often offset by the accuracy and interest of the audience.

Do not Spam the keywords!

This also means using different connotations of the same words over and over again within your content.

Google loves NEW content. Keep in mind that websites are liquid so this is where your blog plays a major role in effective SEO.

Why Stories Relate to Your Ideal Target Market The Best

Today’s eTip is about the power of telling stories in all of your business communications in order to draw in your ideal target market.

Watch today’s video tip for some suggestions on how you can incorporate stories to attract more ideal clients.

When you are representing yourself to your business it’s important to bring your story out.

As a great example, I have been working with a client getting her free-giveaway launched. And as part of that launch sequence we are creating an autoresponder series after people have signed up for her free giveaway.

Instead of sending just a normal email, she is doing a video sequence. One of the things that’s really showcasing her brand and bringing out not only her business brand, but also her own personality, which is making her really relatable to her ideal target market, is her telling stories.

Instead of just telling somebody, “this is what you should do or this is what you need to do”, she is teaching in the form of a story. Now everybody can relate to that story. But not just everybody, it’s the people who are in her target market who can relate to that story.

The stories she is telling are specifically geared to attracting her ideal target market, the people that she really wants to connect with.

She is infusing her teaching moments into a story so they can find that relatable, which then that builds the “know, like and trust” factor between her and her target market so much more powerfully.

So the more you can infuse your story into your blog articles, your social media posts, your newsletters, when you are speaking on stage or in a webinar or teleseminar or even when you are networking with people, infuse stories into what you are talking about.

Don’t just be the person to teach or to talk all about yourself but bring people in through the use of a story that others can relate to. This also showcases your expertise at the same time. They will then be one step closer into being converted into one of your actual clients, a paying customer.

Give that a try next time you write a blog article or post something on social media. Think in terms of, “how can I relate this” How can I share this information that I have in terms of a story as opposed to just telling people about that?”

12 WordPress SEO Hacks to Boost your Traffic

We all want websites that are search-engine friendly.  But sometimes when you are busy it’s easy to publish a new blog post and be off to the next thing on your to do list.

Over time, this can really hurt your SEO efforts.  That’s why I’ve put together this short hit list of things you can do to boost your WordPress SEO.

Schedule these tasks in your calendar to make your blog traffic soar!

  1. Post New Stuff Regularly

    Google has a bias towards fresh content. Part of Google’s algorithm looks at how new the content is and gives preference to more recent results. So publishing original content on a regular basis is important.
     
    Also size matters when it comes to content. Generally longer content ranks higher than shorter content.  So strive to make your post at least 500 words.

  2. Create a Keywords List

    If SEO is a priority, then you’ll want to develop a keyword list.  This is basically a list of keywords and phrases that describes your products and services. These keywords should include words from search terms that are more likely to be used to find your offerings online.
     
    Google has some incredible tools to make keyword research easy. My friend who works at SMR Digital, showed me some of them, including Google Search, Google Suggest, Google Instant and Google Wonder Wheel.
     
    Hint: if you want a really targeted keyword list, hire an SEO expert

  3. Install an SEO Plugin

    This will allow you to set keyword-rich custom titles and Meta descriptions for your posts for search engines.
     
    A couple of popular SEO plug-ins to consider are All in One SEO Pack and WordPress SEO by Yoast.
     
    Again, this is something your web designer or an SEO professional can easily install for you.

  4. Hand Submit to Search Engines

    What good is a site if no one can find it? That’s why getting listed in Google and the other popular search engines and directories is one of the most effective ways of getting free targeted traffic to your website.
     
    You have probably seen lots of automated submission services where you pay a small fee for them to submit your site to hundreds of search engines. These services not only won’t help – they can actually hurt you.
     
    Almost all of these free directories never send an actual visitor to your website and getting links from them can hurt your ability to rank in the real search engines like Google and Bing.
     
    The best practice is to manually submit your site to search engines yourself.  WordPress makes this easy once you set up an account in Google, Bing and Yandex Webmaster Tools.
     
    If unsure, just ask your webmaster or SEO Specialist to set up these accounts.

  5. Add Tags to your Posts

    WordPress, straight out of the box, comes ready to embrace search engines.  The tags features is one of those SEO friendly features you should take advantage of.
     
    Be sure to add relevant keyword-rich tags to every post you publish.

  6. Leave Comments on Other Blogs

    Start linking more to other people’s posts on their blogs and encourage them to link back to you.
     
    One search engine factor that Google considers is backlinking.  A website that has more backlinks is considered more of an authority site and gets higher rankings.

  7. Block Spam Comments

    When people leave comments on your blog, it counts as content to Google.  So if you have a website about DIY crafts and someone leaves 5 comments about “cheap enhancement pills’ that ruins your keyword relevancy and hurts your rankings.
     
    So blocking spam comments from posting to your blog will improve your SEO – as well as make your real blog readers happy.

  8. Internal Linking

    One easy way to get more traffic is to add internal links to your blog posts.
     
    For example if you have an article on Overcoming Your Resistance to Blog Writing, then at the bottom of that article you can post links to “Other Related Articles You May Enjoy”: 4 Content Marketing Trends for Business Owners in 2017 and other related articles. WordPress SEO by Yoast does this automatically for you as you can see at the bottom of this post.

  9. Use Image Alt Tags

    For each image you use in your post, ensure you add the Alt tag to help them rank better in image searches. This is another excellent place to put relevant keywords.
     
    Google has an image search function that works in pretty much the exact same way as the webpage search with keywords and relevance.  So adding Alt tags helps Google find and include your images when someone does an image search.

  10. Tweak Blog Post Titles

    If you quickly wrote titles to your blog posts before, take time to review them first before publishing.
     
    Your  blog post titles are vitally important to your SEO rankings so compare the keywords used to your keyword list and make your blog titles more keyword rich.

  11. Add Social Media Sharing Buttons 

    When Google sees a blog article is getting a lot of posts and shares on social media, it boosts the ranking of that blog post.

    So making it easy for readers to share your posts helps others Tweet and share your great content!

  12. Update Your Theme

    Not all WordPress themes are SEO Friendly and the free WordPress themes may be hurting your search engine rankings because of this.
     
    Having a premium WordPress theme ensures your content will be indexed by the search engines, since the developers have taken special time to optimize every aspect in terms of both security and SEO.
     
    It’s smart to make sure your theme programming isn’t bloated with inefficient code that slows down page load times. We find this a lot with purchased themes and that’s why we only provide custom designed and built WordPress themes for our clients.
