7 Video Marketing Methods for Greater Business Exposure

Did you know Facebook videos get 135% more organic reach than photos?

Today’s video eTip is about using video to your marketing advantage so you can build more business exposure, especially on Facebook.

Watch to find out the 7 different ways you can create video where many of them don’t involve you having to be in front of the camera!

It’s no secret video is where it’s at right now, especially in the social marketing scene. There’s lots of reasons for its popularity and tons of stats to prove video really should be incorporated into every entrepreneur and small business marketing arsenal.

Here are seven different ways you can create video to boost your business brand exposure and gain more traction on social media:

#1 Talking Head Videos

Just as I’m doing in the above video, “talking head” simply means standing in front of the camera and, well, talking.

What you talk about can be anything from a teaching point to a stand-up comedy routine! The point is to get yourself out there to showcase your personality, expertise and build the “know, like and trust” factor with your audience.

#2 Live Action Video

If you’re attending a live event, workshop or concert even, taking your camera and posting footage of what you’re seeing is the live action video definition.

You could do your own commentary by explaining what you’re witnessing or let the audio from the stage be what the viewer listens to.

These types of videos are great for Facebook Live, showing what you’re experiencing in the moment.

#3 Video Interviews

This form of video has been around for ages and is still popular today. Find an expert that you know your target market would find interesting and do an interview with them.

I’ve recently done a few – check out this one with Law of Attraction expert, Dana Smithers or this one with Kindi Gill about the importance of investing wisely in your business.

#4 Video Animations

Another popular form of video that seems to be coming back into popularity is animation. This is where a video is put together through a variety of images and drawings, making the video “come to life” through the animation artwork done.

A popular service that helps create such videos is Animoto.

#5 Video Voice Overs

Not too long ago, I was very camera shy. My first attempts at video were of me recording an audio of my eTip and then laying that over a static image.

We also see a lot of this lately on Facebook where someone has taken an inspirational image and put an audio track to it, making it a video, which then gets a higher reach than if it were just an image.

#6 Video Slideshows

Microsoft PowerPoint is a great tool for not just business presentations, but also creating videos with. The later versions facilitate audio tracks so you can record a whole presentation and export it as a video.

#7 Video Screenshares

In my Social Blast monthly membership training program, I use this technique to teach my students in a way that allows me to literally show them what to do and where.

Camtasia or any other type of screenshare software allows you to speak while demonstrating what you’re talking about on your computer. YouTube is full of such demonstration-style videos.

These are a sample of ideas on what you can do to use video in your marketing strategy and build your business brand exposure. Get yourself out there and give it a try!

If you have any questions about SEO or how to incorporate video into your online marketing, feel free to leave a message in the comment section below and I’d be happy to answer. And if you’re looking for assistance with your SEO efforts, give us a call to discuss.

Until next time,

7 Effective Strategies on Marketing Your Business Locally

7 Effective Strategies on Building Your Business Locally

When I was studying for my business degree and before eVision Media was formed, I was in need of an outlet to be around other like-minded women. Years previous I was a member of the local Valley Women’s Network so revisited their luncheons.

Even though funds were very tight at the time, it was important for me to have some human interaction – even if only once a month.

Little did I know, going to these meetings ended up being the catalyst for eVision Media’s birth.

During this time I connected with women entrepreneurs who where either eager to start a new business or take their business to the next level. Being the former webmaster for the Vancouver Sun and Province, it was a natural thing for them to ask me questions about branding and websites. I was more than happy to share my knowledge.

Eventually conversations evolved into them hiring me so they could get the help they wanted with their marketing presence.

The next thing I knew I was in business as a web developer!

That was over 14 years ago and I’m proud to say a handful of those women are still clients today.

I have to smile when I think about it because I really had no intention of starting my own business. I was going back to school with the idea of landing a CIO position somewhere.

Turns out my calling was much more important than that – helping business owners realize their dream.

The Many Benefits of Attending Local Live Events

Fast forward to present day, I still value the connections made when attending networking and other similar events.

Recently I was in Vernon attending the WOW-Woman of Worth Conference where I had an opportunity to get to know many incredible women I would never have met otherwise. (I was inspired to write these networking tips while there.)

I am also a member of the Business Professional Women’s Group and attend meetings in Langley and Abbotsford.

The connections found at events like these have been invaluable – not only professionally but also personally.

Social Media and Online Marketing is Not the Only Way to Generate New Business

Sometimes with Social Media and online marketing being so prevalent we forget about our own back yard and the opportunities available to us. All we have to do is simply step away from the computer and check them out.

My business was literally created by connecting with people locally.

And just because Social Media has taken over the online networking landscape, doesn’t mean there’s any less value in building your business at that grass-roots level.

Building your business at a grass-roots, local level is just as valuable as social mediaClick To Tweet

Do you market your business in your hometown?

If hiding behind your computer has become the norm for you, I encourage you to explore local opportunities to get better known in your home town.

Here’s seven tips, ideas and suggestions on how you can take advantage of generating business through local efforts:

  1. Network where your target market is hanging out. First be clear on WHO that target market is and then do some research on where they gather.

This is an easy one if you are a B2B business like eVision Media; there’s plenty of networking groups available tailored for that crowd.

But you might have to look at other shared interests. For instance, if your target market is very health conscious, join a popular yoga group and get to know those people who attend.
  2. Volunteer at community groups. Volunteering in community groups are a great way to boost your visibility. Not only are they a great way to give back to your community but also an excellent way for you to showcase your skills and expertise.

Do a search for groups that could use your skillset. A great example is if you are a bookkeeper or accountant – volunteer to be the bookkeeper for the group.
  3. Create your own Meet-up. Setting up local, more casual events on a subject you know would be of interest to your target market is a great way to build your brand visibility.

These types of gatherings can be very beneficial to the attendees where you can offer something of value to them and showcase your expertise at the same time.
  4. Set up a trade show booth. Many trade shows have thousands of visitors. They are a great way to build your brand visibility and bring more awareness to your business offerings with the local crowd.

Set up a professional display and strike up conversations with those showing interest in what you are offering.

Be sure to have a way for them to get onto your mailing list by offering a draw or free giveaway. Just be sure they check off a box giving permission to receive your regular newsletters.
  5. Join the local Chamber of Commerce. Even if your target market is not business owners, there are still plenty of great reasons for you to get to know other business owners in your area by joining your local chamber.

Not only can they be a great referral source for you, but they are still people who could be interested in what you have to offer at a personal level.
  6. Nominate others for awards. We had the honour of being nominated for, and won the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence award in 2016 in the home based business category.

I was also nominated for a WOW – Woman of Worth award in the Business & Prosperity category. The amount of free publicity and exposure we received for each of these awards was priceless.

I encourage you to nominate someone for similar awards. Not only is it very gratifying to make someone else’s day, you also gain a lot of exposure from being the person who nominated them. Another option is to  be an award sponsor, again bringing you great satisfaction and business exposure.
  7. Don’t forget your business card! While some may poo-poo this, I’m still a believer in the value of business cards.

Get professional cards designed and printed. Use them wisely – always ask the other person you’re talking with for their card first and reciprocation will ensue.

Your business card is a first touch-point that person will see your visual brand so ensure you give off the right first impression with a professionally designed one.

Aside from getting out there and getting involved in local community activities, you could also take advantage of various paid advertising opportunities. Newspaper advertorials, radio ad spots, sponsorships and even billboards can all be taken advantage of at a local level.

Don’t Forget About Your Website

No matter what kind of activities we are doing when trying to drum up new business, don’t forget the importance of your website.

With every potential customer you meet, assume they will be heading to your website to check out you and your services. They might even do it right there so ensure your website is mobile friendly and shares the right brand messaging that will compel them into action and hire or buy from you.

Always be seeking opportunities where you can build your business exposure and double bonus points when you can couple those opportunities with giving back!

I’d love to hear from you – share below what ideas you have about local business exposure that’s worked for you?

How Personal and Business Branding Begins with a Professional Headshot

How Personal and Business Branding Begins with a Professional Headshot

Why it’s Time to Ditch Your Selfie Profile Photo for a More Favourable First Impression

Does your social media profile photo reflect the professional business person you want to be perceived as by prospects?

What about your website or other touchpoints a prospective client might encounter to help them determine if you are the best person to work with?

I find many solopreneurs and business owners are not as keenly aware as they should be about how acutely important professional headshots are to their personal and business brand.

Many solopreneurs aren't aware of how important headshots are to their personal & business brandClick To Tweet

I know I didn’t for many years until I finally broke down and had my first photoshoot done a few years back.

Wow, what a difference it made to my overall brand positioning and the perception others had of me as a business professional!  Suddenly the first impression I was making on prospective clients and business-related connections was far more favourable.

All thanks to Taneane Twele of TT Photography in Mission and Judy Doduk of Judy D Beauty in Abbotsford who have teamed up to provide photography, make-up and even hair services in their Shine Portraits package.

Professional Make-up for Photoshoot with Judy DodukSince it’s been 3 years since those initial photos were taken, I recently headed back to Taneane’s studio to better reflect how I look today.

I know how many business owners strongly resist having professional photos done. Me too. I was overweight and avoided the camera lens at all costs. But somehow, miraculously as far as I was concerned, Taneane was able to position me in various poses that showcased ME instead of the excess weight I was carrying.

Whatever your reasons for avoiding the camera, trust me when I tell you a professional photographer, combined with professional make-up application, will make a world of difference and enable you to be showcased professionally in front of your prospects and clients.

Using a professional photographer & make-up artist makes a huge difference in your personal brandClick To Tweet

Click here to watch a quick video I did with Taneane while on location during our shoot.

At the end of the day, professional photos give the impression you care about your personal and professional image. It’s that favourable perception others have of you that will greatly enhance the success of your business.

If your profile photo was taken years ago or not done by a professional photographer, it’s time to step up and create a better lasting impression by booking a professional photoshoot. And once you have your new photos in hand, ensure you use them!

Here’s several places to incorporate your professional headshot:

  • All Social Media Profiles

Whether you are active on them or not, people are accessing any and all of your social media profiles at any given moment.

Try to vary your photos if possible. For instance, I use a more personable, friendly photo on my personal Facebook page where a more professional photo is used on the Business page, LinkedIn and other professional networks.

They are each professional photos but what I’m wearing and my pose makes the difference between the friendly and casual look compared to a more polished and professional one.

  • Online Profiles

If you do any form of content marketing, the odds are good you have bio profiles scattered in several places that showcase you being the author of your piece. Take a look at places like Storify, Business 2 Community, or YouInc and ensure your professional headshot is in place.

Don’t forget about other websites and platforms you might not visit often like Skype, Medium, Alignable, WordPress, DISQUS, Gravatar, and other places that require an avatar to go with your name and bio.

  • Social Media Banners

If you are the face of your business, then you need to get comfortable with seeing yourself in the spotlight. For instance, if you are a speaker, author or industry leader, then your social media banners should also include your photo.

Have your photographer take shots of you “in action” either posed or live when on stage. This welcomes followers and prospects into your world and gives them a feel for what their experience would be like if they went to see your presentation.

  • Your Website

Most entrepreneurs are the face of their business regardless of the industry they are in. Placing a professional image of you throughout your website is imperative for prospects to get a favourable impression of you and your business.

Use your About page wisely and ensure your photo evokes trust with your website visitors. You want your photo to give the impression you are friendly, approachable and honest.

  • Email Signature

How many emails do you send out in a day or week? More than likely that’s a lot of eyeballs you have an opportunity to gain better brand visibility with through an email signature.

Get a professional eSignature designed that includes your photo so when people meet you in person, they feel they already know you and are a familiar face.

  • Marketing Collateral

Whatever you do when it comes to your print and digital marketing pieces, you are definitely leaving a lasting impression on whoever it comes in contact.

Whether it’s your business card, promotional materials or advertisements, take advantage of the opportunity to have your personal and brand be showcased by using your professional head shot.

This will help build upon the valuable “Know, Like and Trust” factor you want to achieve with your target market.

Sadly, the truth of being a business person is prospects are going to judge you based on your appearance. That first impression could literally make them decide whether or not they can trust you to do business with or move on to your competitor.

If you want to give a lasting and positive impression to your followers and potential clients, make the small investment to get professional headshots done. This type of business investment will get you great returns – it did for me!

Have you resisted getting professional photos done for your business? Share below your reasons.

Why Website Development Is More Important Today Than It’s Ever Been

Website development is as many parts science as it is art. Whether you’re selling a product or a service, your website speaks volumes about the credibility of your business. And that’s especially true in today’s competitive digital environment.

If you’re clear about the type of clients you want to attract, building a thoughtful, fully-fledged website framework upfront can save you a lot of time and frustration.

Not to mention the alternative could be costing you engaged and loyal customers.

Think about it this way:

When you meet someone for the first time and start networking, chances are, the first thing they’ll do after you part ways is go check out your website.

What do you want to impress upon them there?

Remember, you won’t be able to provide any feedback while they’re online, so the user experience has to be enough to convince them you’re the real deal.

Ideally, it should also help you with the holy grail of entrepreneurial prowess: customer retention.

So should you invest in website development?

There’s an easy way to determine if you should invest in your business website by asking this one question:

Will you be inviting any paying customers or potential clients to view it?

If you answered yes, then the smartest move for your business is to get a professionally designed website.

You really can’t afford not to.

Why A Professional Headshot Is A Must For Business Owners

When you run your own small business, you understand that first impressions can make or break valuable relationships.

Oftentimes, the only thing standing between you and a new client, is a good first impression.

What makes a good professional photo?

If you’ve ever looked at a photo of yourself and cringed, you understand on some level the complexities of a great, photogenic photo.

You also probably relate to the feeling of taking a photo that makes you feel like a million bucks!

If you’ve never felt that excitement, you’re missing out.

Here’s the biggest takeaway I had from working with Taneane from Taneane Twele Photography: No matter how bad you think you look, you are the only one who thinks that.

And that’s never more clear than when you get a professional headshot done.

Your face is treated like a canvas, with all the subtleties and flourishes that make pretty pictures into masterpieces.

If you have any questions about professional headshots, feel free to leave a message in the comment section below and I’d be happy to answer. Or if you are interested in more information about how to market your business, sign up for my free newsletter.

What a Baby Giraffe Teaches Us About Viral Campaigns

What a Baby Giraffe Teaches Us About Viral Campaigns

5 Ways You Can Boost Your Business Exposure

Looking for your next big marketing campaign?  Could your business use a brand exposure boost?

You may want to take a lesson from the Animal Adventure Park in New York.

April the Giraffe is close to giving birth any moment now.  Millions worldwide have been captivated on YouTube, watching April the Giraffe’s journey to giving birth (and yes, I’m guilty to admit I too am one of them!).

While following April’s progress from when the Adventure Park thought she was near her delivery date may have started to be a simple enough event, the world began to take notice and April’s pregnancy quickly went viral.

Interestingly, the live feed was installed to help the staff monitor her without needing to be in the barn 24-7. They thought it would be fun to make this feed available to the public at the same time.

Little did they know within days they would have millions of viewers watching April’s every move, anxious to not miss the big event.

In fact, if you read the comments on their Facebook page, you’ll see just how many are intently keeping tabs on the big girl and her mate Oliver in the pen next to her.

While being a daily follower (good thing I have 3 monitors so can always easily check in to see what she’s up to), the huge success of this campaign has me thinking about the lessons we business owners can learn about strengthening our brand identity using this unique case study.

April the Giraffe provides an excellent case study on viral marketing and brand exposureClick To Tweet

So here’s 5 ways you too can build your business exposure as we examine a few tactics from April’s playbook:

  1. Live Video

Who can resist the thought of seeing a baby animal? Baby animals are a huge draw and April’s soon-to-be-born baby is no exception.

Having a live video allows people to feel they are a part of the experience. Aside from YouTube, Facebook LIVE, Instagram Stories and Snapchat all have a live feed ability. What can you share live that your followers would find of interest?

Remember people don’t want to be marketed to; they want to be a part of something and be entertained.  And once they become part of the story, they get addicted.

Live video is great marketing and an excellent way of building your brand reach.

Live video is great marketing and an excellent way of building your brand reachClick To Tweet
  2. Sponsorship

Not only has the Animal Adventure Park gotten incredible visibility out of April the giraffe, but they also turned it into a revenue generating activity.

If you notice, Toys R Us is a sponsor for their video feed.  That’s an excellent fit considering their Geoffrey the Giraffe is the mascot of Toys R Us and kids love the zoo.

The Park set up a Go Fund Me Account and a page asking for other corporate sponsors who want to cash in on the exposure for their brand.

  3. Social Media

Twice a day, updates are added to the Park’s Facebook page giving their fans insider information about April’s progress.

Fans get to see close-up pictures and read about the latest vet reports of this mama Giraffe to be.  This has been a very effective hook to boost Facebook likes for their business page.

  4. Custom Emoji

Emoji’s have become a very popular part of pop culture and the Adventure Park capitalized on this by offering an April the Giraffe emoji to their fans.

Why not make your own emoji to create buzz for your own marketing campaign? Make it easy for fans to spread the news for you! Plus, emoji’s are downright fun. Who can resist?

  5. Live Chats

Every night the Park staff enable the live chat feature on YouTube and respond to as many fans as possible. It literally is a zoo during these chats! Thousands show up to ask questions, make a donation to boost their question’s visibility, and be a part of the whole experience.

Facebook LIVE is a great tool to facilitate live chats. It provides an opportunity for you to showcase your expertise as well as your brand and offer a way for your followers to get to know, like and trust you more.

Launch Your Own Viral Campaign

Today’s media has changed the way consumers interact with brands.  Your potential customers are exposed to thousands of marketing messages every day.

No one wants to be sold to, but everyone wants to buy.

Which companies do they choose to shop with?  The ones who create community, engagement, and an incredible brand experience just like how the Animal Adventure Park did.

So stick your neck out like April the Giraffe has and you’ll give birth to greater sales and visibility for your business.

6 Highly Effective Ways to Position Your Business Brand Like a Super Hero

6 Highly Effective Ways to Position Your Business Brand Like a Super Hero

How Christine Awram Successfully Created a Powerful Brand for Women

I recently attended The Tammy Moyer Woman of Worth Awards Gala event created by the Woman of Worth founder, Christine Awram.

I was honoured to have been nominated in the Business & Prosperity category by Dana Smithers of Empowered Women in Business. In addition, I was doubly honoured to find out I was one of the 5 finalists in that category!

Woman of Worth award finalists 2017

Even though my name wasn’t called as the winner, I still felt and feel like a winner.

And the reason for that?

The entire experience Christine creates during and in between events such as this.

Her mantra is “all women are leaders and every woman is a Woman of Worth [WOW]” andit’s the platform on which she’s built a very successful brand.

To quote Christine:

Christine Awram WOW awards 2017“Twelve years ago it was just an idea, and now we’re impacting the global empowerment of women. WOW takes us a step closer to a world where ALL women collaborate and are powerful, prosperous, peaceful and on purpose. I began this adventure with a burning desire to make a difference.

There were many times I wavered and despaired, and if there was a mistake to be made I made it, but I kept the vision and kept moving forward. I’m humbled by what we’ve created together as a community. WOW is incredible.

My invitation to every woman: Celebrate your magnificence, turn up the volume, step up your leadership game, and GET WOWED.”

Over the years, Christine has created several one-day events and workshops specifically for women, and WOW, these events are incredibly empowering! (Pun intended.)

How does she do it?

It’s all in how she has positioned her business brand.

Business brand positioning is how a business owner comes across to others and are perceived by their target market.  Christine has found the perfect brand formula that has positioned herself as a champion for women.

Brand positioning is how you come across to others & are perceived by your target marketClick To Tweet

Wonder how she did it? Here are six tips to replicate her crazy success:

  1. Be clear on who you are and what you’re about

When it comes to building a strong business brand, it’s imperative you understand how your personality makes up that brand.

Be clear on how you want to be positioned in front of your ideal target market. Then be consistent on how you come across to others in everything you do.

Christine does this beautifully with every encounter someone has with her. Whether it’s a social media post or approaching her in the foyer at an event, she’s consistently clear with her branding message, even when she is sick with pneumonia as was the case this weekend!

  2. Be clear on who makes up your ideal target market

Before you can build a successful business brand, you need to be crystal clear on who you want to serve.

Without this insight, you are throwing spaghetti at a wall hoping something sticks enough to get a sale. Understanding what their needs and challenges are and how you can best serve them is fundamental in building a business brand.

Christine is well aware her target market is dynamic women who wish to be a part of a community for personal and professional growth. She provides and facilitates opportunities for collaborating, showcasing, networking, building community and having fun, all of which her target audience is looking for.

  3. Be passionate about your business

Have you ever attended a trade show where the person in his or her booth is just sitting behind a table, looking at their phone, completely disengaged from the passers-by?

When someone is not passionate about what they’re doing, they really shouldn’t be doing it. If you are feeling lackluster in your business, either find ways to get your joy back or see if perhaps there’s something else that will help you feel more on purpose.

Christine is extremely passionate about empowering women. Everything she does is with the intention of supporting women to help them achieve their goals and aspirations..

  4. Use social media to build a community

Social media is a powerful way to build a community full of raving fans. This is one area that Christine has mastered. No matter how busy she is, she will take the time to respond to every single comment and post that she’s been tagged in.

    Every. Single. Time.

THIS is the way to build a strong community on social media. Make people feel special with positive reinforcement, recognition, and support… your brand will reap the many rewards as a result.

  5. Get help

It’s nearly impossible to create a successful business brand by yourself. It really does take a village! Much as I have a team of skilled people on my team who are experts in their own fields, Christine has also invited people into her circle.

Sometimes getting help is not in the form of paying an employee; Christine invites volunteers to help her out in exchange for free admission to her events. How the Business of Branding Works to Meet Your Sales and Marketing Goals

One of the most important elements in making sales is the ability to build trust and rapport with prospects.

In person it’s easy.  You shake hands, strike up a conversation and build a connection.

But online sales are a bit different.

Often times you are doing business with strangers who have never met you.  They have doubts about who you are, if you can create the results they are looking for, and if you are specialized enough to understand their needs.

Moreover, today’s consumers are craving more connection and authenticity from companies they do business with.

And this is where business branding comes in.

Business branding helps connect prospects with companies on a personal levelClick To Tweet

Your business brand defines who you are. It’s the heart of your business.  Branding helps to identify and differentiate your business in the marketplace. It defines and positions your business in order to separate you from a sea of competitors.

Branding creates an emotional connection and turns regular customers into raving fans.  But how do you build an effective brand?

Here’s 5 ways to build a business brand that will strengthen your relationship with your target market so they will be more inclined to do business with you:

  1. Claim your Niche. It’s really important to define who your perfect customers  Brands that try to appeal to a wide audience are weak.

Instead, when you define your target market with a specific niche, it allows you to speak more powerfully to their needs.
  2. Be the Top Expert. Being a dentist in your home town puts you in the same class as all the other dentists in your area.

But what if you are the top holistic dentist using all-natural products running a “green” dentistry practice?  That brand may attract clients from all around the country.

Accentuate your strengths.  Claim your title.  If you are not the best, you can be the first, the biggest, the #1 trusted choice.

Find a way to set yourself apart as top dog in your industry.  Then constantly read, learn and grow to keep your leading edge. When consumers see you as an authority they’ll seek you out.
  3. Be a WowSeth Godin talks about “Purple Cowing” your business: “Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable”.  Offering VIP value to your customers helps you stand out.

Instead of just being an oil change shop, imagine if you have a cappuccino maker, offered a mini back massage, and had a big screen TV within a high-end lounge that customers could wait in. You could charge premium fees for a business with “over the top” service and amenities.

Maybe you offer “freaky fast” service like the Jimmy Johns sandwich chain.  Or perhaps you offer personalized services that make your customers feel special.

Do what it takes to stand out from the crowd and be remembered for something your customers will be wowed over. The more you strive to make your existing customers feel special, the more they will tell others about you.
  4. Build a Tribe. Create a community your fans can be a part of. Some ways to do that are:
    • Share frequent updates with your fan base on Social Media and in your newsletters.
    • Tell them insider information about future offers, releases or launches.
    • Give them exclusive discounts or gifts with purchase.
    • Reward them for their loyalty. We offer incentives for those who refer others to us.
    • Recognize top fans publicly.
  5. Give Back. Want your brand to become legendary?  Find ways to give back so your business brand leaves a legacy.  Here’s some ideas:

Find your own way to touch the world and leave your mark in a way that only your company can.
